As a member of our FAA Enterprise Network Services (FENS) team, you will bring your passion, education, and security engineering experience to this critical mission and interact directly with decision-makers and government staff who are tasked with ensuring the nation's air transportation system's underlying communications infrastructure is secure and always available. We are hiring skilled and energetic candidates to work alongside the best and brightest employees on a long-term career opportunity to design, build, and operate the next-generation NAS network supporting the busiest, most complex aerospace system in the world. In this role, you will be the Security Device Engineering subject matter expert for the Security Operations Center supporting the FAA

Responsibilities Include:

  • Serving as a team lead for Tier 3 engineers
  • Assisting the engineering team with the change design and implementation of security devices in our customer environment
  • Designing, engineering, and implementing change requests for security devices
  • Incident management through complex troubleshooting of security devices
  • Assisting Tier 2 security engineers with or performing troubleshooting, configuration, replacement, updating, or installation of enterprise security devices.
  • Acting as an escalation point for Tier 2 to solve security issues.
  • Working with the design engineer, project engineer, and project manager on customer transition, implementation, or transformation projects.
  • Assessing vendor vulnerability reports against existing customer devices. Working with customers to implement mitigation activities.
  • Participating in audit and compliance assessments performed internally, by external vendors, or by customer audit teams.
  • Attending incident calls, reviewing and understanding documented processes, updating process documents, providing peer-to-peer training, and interacting with high-level Verizon and customer managers.
  • Produce weekly reports of trends, incidents, changes etc…
  • Performing other duties as required.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience in Firewall configuration and troubleshooting
  • Six or more years of experience with security device engineering
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain government clearance at the Public Trust level
  • Experience in routing, switching and firewall troubleshooting
  • IPS/IDS signature creation

Even better if you also have:

  •  Master's degree in information security, cyber security, computer science, or related field
  • Experience working in a 24x7x365 Security Operations Center
  • Experience working with Fortinet Firewalls, Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco Firewalls, Infoblox, Endace, PCAP (Log Capturing, reviewing, decoding) Cisco Secure Network Analytics (Stealthwatch), VMware-based firewalls, Cisco ISE, and for any of the above would be a strong plus
  • Ability to use JIRA and create Excel Gannt Charts to project forecast
  • Security certification i.e. Security+, CISSP, GIAC, CEH, etc...
  • Experience with Cisco UCS
  • Powershell/python scripting
  • Experience in system builds and administration of Windows server 2016 -2019, Linux - RHEL/CENTOS 7/8/9, and Ubuntu
  • Experience in LDAP/ Active Directory
  • Experience in Load balancing (HAProxy, F5)
  • Experience in Splunk
  • Experience in IT, application development and support, and Cybersecurity with highly scalable online transactional systems
  • Experience in .NET C# Development
  • Knowledge of MS SQL Server Database and T-SQL.
  • Experience in Web Service Development
  • Experience in MVC 4/5 Development
  • Experience in RESTful Web API Development
  • Experience working with the FAA preferred

Where you’ll be working

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.
