Job Description

About Us
Vector Fibre builds data networks for business. From building, monitoring, and maintaining our own fibre optic network, to designing ways for business to connect to it and the world, we’re working hard to be the go-to company for businesses who demand fast, reliable and secure data networks.

We have recently completed a major transformation project that has enabled us to re-position ourselves as a credible alternative in the premium Auckland fibre market. We have now operationalised this new technology and are selling these services – it’s an exciting time to join us.

While Vector Fibre is small enough to be easy to deal with, we’re very well connected.  Our parent company Vector Limited is one of New Zealand’s leading infrastructure companies.

About the role
In the role of Network Operations Engineer, you will provide day to day operations of our network infrastructure, working as an engineer for Incident & Change Management across management, carrier, internet and customer networks, and will primarily carry out the following tasks and duties:

  • Provisioning carrier and internet services
  • Configuration of network equipment, both carrier and customer owned
  • Implement and coordinate physical and logical network equipment changes
  • Working with our field services provider to install, change and maintain equipment
  • Participating in an on-call roster.

This is a dynamic role where no two days will be the same, working in a small fast-paced operations team, who are supportive, collaborative, and customer focused.

Who we are looking for
You will have 5 + years’ experience working for a telecommunications or Managed Service Provider in a similar role, along with good communication skills and a customer first approach. You will also be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • CCNA or equivalent experience
  • Good understanding of IP Networking fundamentals
  • Prior experience configuring network switches or NIDs
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask

  • Basic understanding of MPLS and VRFs
  • Familiarity with network OSS tools (one or many of the following: Incident, change, problem, CMDB, Order management, configuration management, NMS, EMS, RADIUS, DNS)
  • Strong, demonstrated desire to continue learning and developing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Prior experience working with field service providers or smart hands

Having the follow skills would be a bonus, but not a necessity

  • Understanding of MEF services, EVPL, EPL etc
  • Understanding of OTN services
  • Prior experience working with bitstream services and RSPs
  • Some scripting experience (Ansible, Python/Bash/Shell/SQL)
  • Prior experience using ServiceNow
  • Experience supporting a multi-vendor network environment
