Job Description

100 years new

If you’re an engineer who likes to push the boundaries of what’s possible but also likes to get things done, then Vector might just be the perfect place for you.

We’ve been going for 100 years, which means we have the scale and support to know how to make things happen and deliver critical infrastructure projects across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

Right now, the engineering challenges of creating a fit for purpose electricity network to serve a low carbon economy mean you’ll need to bring your problem solving, innovative best to work here.

So whilst we’re 100 years old, it can feel like we’re just beginning.

Ko tā mātou mahi | Our role
As asset engineer/senior engineer, you’ll build an understanding of the performance of electricity network assets, and (with the support of the wider team) define the asset strategies and manage the asset management activities required to meet our objectives.

As the subject matter expert for your asset class, you’ll apply a mix of short-, medium- and long-term thinking within the engineering landscape to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for asset management activity planning. This will include:

  • Technical support for the assets for which you’re responsible, eg reactive maintenance, and engineering deviations,
  • Asset risk assessments, evaluation and update of asset strategies and scoping of asset replacement proposal
  • Development and input into the asset and network strategy for your asset class for the next 10yrs+.

This is a unique opportunity to set the requirement for the full spectrum of engineering activities, from procurement, capital planning, and maintenance to support our assets across the whole life cycle – tomorrow, next year, even 50 years from now. You’ll also work closely with our wider business stakeholders, growing your technical capability whilst seeing the application of that into business strategy and performance – a great basis from which to further your career with us.

Te hunga e kimihia ana e mātau | Who we are looking for

  • You’ll have an electrical background, ideally with a degree in a relevant field or perhaps a trades background with subsequent exposure to engineering analysis, planning and decision making, coupled with an interest in other stakeholders’ drivers within our business
  • Preferably you’re experienced with overhead switchgear
  • You’ll be a strong communicator, adept at explaining technical content to non-specialist audiences
  • An understanding of/experience working within an asset management framework, aligned to ISO 55000 is advantageous.

Studies have shown that many of us are less likely to apply for a job unless we feel we meet every single requirement. If this role excites you but you’re concerned you don’t meet every requirement, we encourage you to put your best foot forward, showcase your enthusiasm and apply anyway.

We have the flexibility to appoint at either Engineer or Senior Engineer level depending upon the successful candidate's experience.

Ngā mea ka taea e mātau mōu | What we can offer you

Whether it’s the opportunity to do meaningful mahi and build a legacy for Auckland and New Zealand, to work in an innovative and transformative sector, or our commitment to supporting your development, there’s a myriad of reasons to choose a career with Vector.
