We're a hybrid team based in the Bay Area. We come together in person usually ~3 days a week at our office, with the option for ~2 days of flexible remote work.
The Position
We're hiring one intern to help us navigate and build the open science tools layer.
What you'll do:
Half your time: Research. Half your time: Build.
Research the landscape: Map existing open science infrastructure. Understand what's out there, what works, what's broken, and where the gaps are.
Write PRDs: Turn research into clear product requirements. Help us make informed build-vs-buy decisions.
Build tools: Once you've identified direction, prototype solutions. Ship real code that advances our open science capabilities.
Work with research data: You'll tap into open research datasets: metadata, citation graphs, full-text corpora. You should already have some intuition for how academic data is structured and where it lives.
You'll work directly with founders and senior engineers. Your research will shape real product decisions. Your code will ship to production.
Who You Are
You're an undergrad or grad student who can actually build things
You're fluent with APIs and comfortable wrangling datasets
You develop with AI tools and know how to prototype fast
You have good design instincts. You care about how things work and how they feel
You're curious about how research infrastructure actually works
You can context-switch between strategic thinking and hands-on building
Not a fit: We're not looking for someone who only wants to write about open science. We need someone who can ship.

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate
