DevOps / SRE Engineer Lead (Azure)

Location: Remote (US Time Zone overlap required)

Department: Engineering

Role Seniority: Lead / Senior Technical Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a DevOps / SRE Engineer Lead with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure (complemented by foundational AWS knowledge) to drive production reliability, technical debt remediation, and enterprise cloud infrastructure optimization.

In this role, you will serve as the primary Azure subject matter expert and hands-on technical lead, capable of solving complex, real-world Azure scenarios independently. You will guide engineering teams on Azure architectural best practices, lead production troubleshooting, and enforce secure CI/CD workflows across cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Azure Technical Leadership & Hands-on Engineering: Drive technical initiatives focused on Azure technical debt remediation, architectural optimization, and Azure best practices alignment.

  • Production Troubleshooting & SRE: Act as the primary technical point of escalation for complex Azure production issues, performing root-cause analysis (RCA) and implementing long-term mitigation strategies independently.

  • Cloud Infrastructure & Security: Secure, scale, and govern enterprise Azure environments (with secondary support for AWS workloads) following strict compliance, IAM, and security standards.

  • Automation & CI/CD Pipelines: Design and optimize automated CI/CD deployment pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) and Infrastructure as Code for reliable, zero-downtime releases.

  • Risk Management & Stakeholder Alignment: Identify cloud dependencies, manage operational risks, and communicate technical decisions clearly to client stakeholders and cross-functional global teams.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Core Expertise in Microsoft Azure (Primary Focus): Deep, practical experience with Azure core services, Azure Architecture, networking, identity/IAM, governance, and cost optimization. Proven capability to independently solve real-world Azure production scenarios.

  • Working Knowledge of AWS (Secondary): Practical baseline experience with AWS core components (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC) to navigate hybrid or multi-cloud environments when needed.

  • Strong SRE & Production Troubleshooting: Hands-on background investigating, diagnosing, and resolving live production outages under high pressure.

  • CI/CD & Infrastructure as Code: Deep understanding of Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins, along with IaC tools (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates).

  • Cloud Security Awareness: Strong understanding of Azure security tools, policy enforcement, vulnerability remediation, and enterprise compliance guidelines.

  • Technical Leadership: Proven ability to make autonomous decisions, prioritize technical remediation tasks, and mentor team members on Azure best practices.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and spoken English, with confidence in answering situational technical questions and escalating issues to client stakeholders.

What the Evaluation Process Includes

Candidates will undergo a rigorous technical assessment focused on:

  1. Azure In-Depth Knowledge: Questions starting from Azure fundamentals and systematically escalating to advanced architectural, networking, and governance scenarios.

  2. Situational & Real-World Troubleshooting: Practical, scenario-based evaluation on how you handle live Azure production outages, enforce security policies, and manage escalation paths under real conditions.

Nice to Have

  • Microsoft Azure Certifications (e.g., AZ-400 DevOps Engineer Expert, AZ-305 Azure Solutions Architect, or AZ-104).

  • Experience collaborating across global distributed teams (e.g., US / India alignment).

  • Agile / Scrum delivery framework experience.
