Mid Full-Stack Engineer

Ustwo is looking for a mid-level Full-stack Engineer to help us grow our digital product team. Specifically, we’re looking for someone who can work across the web stack, with experience in frontend web development as well as backend and infrastructure development.

As a developer you will work to solve difficult problems and build beautiful and intuitive products within a cross-functional team of technologists, designers, product owners and agile coaches.

How you’ll spend your time

• You will develop, test, deploy, and improve digital products with a focus on full-stack development - from front-end (HTML, CSS, JS/TS, front-end frameworks), to backend (typically JS/TS/Node), to infrastructure (cloud hosting, CI/CD, etc).
• You’ll work within a cross-discipline agile team (including product, design, test, and delivery) to refine work and collaborate on approach to build great products for our clients.
• You will be responsible for building great products across web front-end and backend, highlighting any areas of uncertainty, and ultimately delivering working software in a cross-functional team.
• You will be deep into code and be looked upon as an autonomous contributor, practicing your craft with care and attention to detail + good practice.
• You will work alongside our broader engineering team, who regularly share and learn from each other across projects
• You will work closely with our clients and the rest of our team to define work, collaborate with our cross-functional team, and demo-ing your great work regularly. Unlike some places, all of us are client-facing at ustwo!
• You’ll work closely with your colleagues in test/QA to ensure coverage of your work, contributing to automated test and build pipelines.
• You will be accountable for owning your technical tasks through to completion, supported by senior engineers on your team.
• You’ll contribute to your team by helping to shape ways of working, participating in team ceremonies, and being a practitioner and advocate for great engineering practice.

What we’re looking for

Note that some of our full-stack engineers are more conversant in the front-end, some in backend, others in infrastructure - which is great! We don’t expect expertise in all areas, but deep knowledge in at least one and being conversant in the others is what we’re looking for.

• Strong experience with React, or another major web framework (e.g. Vue, Angular)
• Experience building and working with backend services (e.g. Node.js, serverless functions)
• Experience with containerised services and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, etc.)
• Working knowledge of modern cross-browser HTML5+, ES6+ and CSS3+
• Knowledge of frontend application patterns and experience working within them (MVC, MVVM, Mediator, Rx, Flux, etc.)
• Awareness of the most established development libraries and frameworks and their ecosystems
• Experience working with databases, and working knowledge of different types of datastores and their characteristics (SQL / NoSQL / real-time, etc.)
• Experience with API integration / testing / design / implementation (e.g. GraphQL, REST, etc.)
• Knowledge of Continuous Integration / Deployment
• Experience with automated testing (e.g. unit, integration, API, etc.)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working within agile environments including Scrum / Kanban

Nice to have experience

What we’re looking for here is potential and interest to learn. So, don’t stress if your skills don’t stretch across all these areas. 

• Experience with deploying, hosting, securing, monitoring and scaling in the cloud (AWS, Azure or GCP) 
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Terraform, Chef, Puppet, etc.)
• Experience in building highly scalable and resilient web applications
• Practical experience with TDD and / or BDD (using frameworks such as Mocha, Jest, Cucumber, Rspec, Capybara, Selenium, etc.)
• Experience working with mobile development either in native and/or cross platform development (Swift, Java, Kotlin, React Native, Dart/Flutter)

What you’re like

• Current in your practice. You have solid software development fundamentals and a working understanding of modern, best-practice software development practices and workflow. You keep up with the latest trends in technology
• Highly collaborative. Able to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams of designers, developers and product managers using Agile and Lean principles

Our Portuguese tech band for our Mid level is: €35,000k - €40,000k per year depending on experience. Our Malmo salary bands are 40,000 - 45,000 SEK per month depending on experience.
