The University of Louisville ITS Network and Telecom department is seeking a Network Engineer V. This position provides technical leadership for design, administration and management of highly complex university wireless networks and services used by faculty, staff and students. This position requires comprehensive knowledge and experience with wireless network architecture, wired and wireless network equipment, wireless protocols, RF design for buildings, wireless design and analysis software, and vendor services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, configure, install, monitor, and maintain the network equipment that supports the UofL wireless networks, including wireless access points and controllers, as well as services for monitoring, authentication, and guest services.
Perform radio frequency (RF) design and analysis of the campus wireless network and collaborate with UofL partners to deliver high-performing Wi-Fi connectivity for UofL students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Troubleshoot complex wireless and wired network issues, as well as advise and make recommendations to management regarding changes to related software and equipment.
Use reporting and analysis of network infrastructure metrics to assess the health of the wireless and wired networks and identify opportunities for improvement to increase overall performance and user experience.
Maintain knowledge of technical field and continuous professional development through study, conference attendance, and activities.
Manage projects and supervise project staff and contractors as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Industry certifications and experience designing, implementing, managing, and supporting large enterprise wireless networks are desired.
Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize work to meet multiple, competing deadlines.
Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
Proven self-starter with the ability to work with minimal direction and oversight.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
