Staff Software Engineer, Cross-Platform

The opportunity
Unity is the ubiquitous 3D engine that runs real-time content anywhere. We serve interactive content creators by making Unity the best way to get real-time content on any device. Our Platform Services Abstraction team contributes to this vision by delivering cross-platform solutions that allow creators to take advantage of similar features across a variety of devices without the need to know platform-specific details. This will ensure that similar features can be accessed with a single, unified library and API that "just works", no matter the device.

To achieve this mission, we are looking for a staff level software engineer with experience developing and delivering robust software libraries to join our team.

What you'll be doing

• Crafting unified APIs that implement features of various target platforms in a unified and testable way.
• Working with senior engineers across Unity to unify various platform implementations into a single, flexible abstraction for use across Unity.
• Providing leadership in technical discussions by showing a deep understanding of API design principles.
• Deliver a stable quality product that the team is proud of by exemplifying robust API design methodologies along with high-quality C# and C++ coding practices.

What we're looking for

• An excellent understanding of and experience using C++ or C# in a production environment.
• Experience designing and implementing user-facing APIs.
• Experience abstracting the requirements of different platforms into a simple, cohesive API surface-area.
• Knowledge of native development on at least one desktop, mobile or console platform with the curiosity to work with additional platforms.
• Experience coordinating cross-team projects from initiation to completion and the desire to grow the abilities of other engineers and share knowledge.

You might also have

• Development experience with game consoles, mobile or desktop platforms
• Experience shipping cross-platform titles that also use platform-specific features when appropriate
• Experience with API design using asynchronous coding paradigms
