Senior Infrastructure Engineer

The opportunity
The Data Platform team at Unity manages a comprehensive range of data infrastructure, systems, and tools—covering every stage of the data lifecycle, from ingestion and storage to processing and data product creation through a data mesh inspired architecture. The data assets we produce serve as the foundation for machine learning use cases and enable teams across the company to extract value from data—fueling insights, automation, and business growth.

We're seeking a talented Senior Data Infrastructure Engineer to join our team. In this role, you’ll collaborate with engineers, product specialists, and data experts to research, prototype, and develop robust data applications, services, and pipelines—powering critical adtech use cases such as user segmentation, campaign optimization, and real-time bidding, based on over 500 billion daily data events.

What you'll be doing

• Platform Design & Optimization: Design and optimize large-scale data infrastructure systems for efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Infrastructure Tooling: Drive improvements in infrastructure tooling by researching, prototyping, and implementing solutions that enhance operational excellence and developer agility.
• Cost Optimization: Lead infrastructure optimization initiatives across the company, delivering significant cost savings while maintaining or improving service performance.
• Operational Excellence: Participate in on-call rotations, leveraging deep infrastructure knowledge to quickly resolve complex issues, reduce impact, and implement long-term fixes through automation and system improvements.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with teams across the organization to deliver scalable, cost-efficient solutions. Continuously refine infrastructure and service deployment through CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (IaC) in collaboration with development and site reliability engineering teams.

What we're looking for

• Strong Engineering Foundation: Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience building robust distributed systems.
• Cloud & Infrastructure Expertise: Deep hands-on experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure, and building Kubernetes-based infrastructure.
• Programming Proficiency: Skilled in one or more of Go, Java, or Python for backend systems development.
• Data & Systems Experience: Background in data platforms, backend services, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively across global, cross-functional teams.

You might also have

• Team-Oriented Mindset: Values collaboration and shared ownership and sees engineering as a collective effort.
• Modern Data Stack Familiarity: Hands-on experience with tools like Kafka, Flink, BigQuery, and Druid.
• Infrastructure Automation: Proficient with Terraform, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, or similar tools for CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
