Sr Principal Software Engineer

We are seeking a Principle Database Data Operations Engineer (DBE) to drive the strategic performance, reliability, and scalability of databases in a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment. As a technical leader, you will design and implement advanced database solutions, mentor team members, and ensure database services align with organizational goals and industry best practices.

The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, a proven track record of solving complex database challenges, and the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives that enhance database operations and platform efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Architectural Leadership: Define and implement the architecture for database systems to ensure scalability, reliability, and optimal performance.

Advanced Optimization: Lead efforts to diagnose and resolve complex database performance issues, leveraging advanced indexing, partitioning, and query optimization techniques.

Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to database engineers, fostering skill development and promoting best practices.

Testing and Automation: Establish robust testing frameworks and automation pipelines to streamline database deployment, testing, and maintenance.

Strategic Planning: Develop strategies for capacity planning, disaster recovery, and database modernization to align with business needs and growth.

Service Health and Observability: Implement and enhance monitoring solutions for proactive detection and resolution of database issues, ensuring high availability and reliability.

Collaboration: Collaborate with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to align database services with business objectives and technical roadmaps.

Documentation: Lead the creation of comprehensive documentation for database designs, standards, and operational procedures.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

Database Expertise:

Extensive experience with PostgreSQL, including advanced performance tuning, query optimization, and partitioning.

Proficiency with database technologies such as CloudSQL, AlloyDB, MSSQL, and MySQL.

Deep knowledge of database architecture, design patterns, and scalability best practices.

Programming and Scripting:

Advanced proficiency in SQL and scripting languages such as Python, Java, or gcloud CLI.

Strong experience in automation frameworks and tools for database operations.

Cloud and Tools:

Proven expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) database services, including CloudSQL and AlloyDB.

Advanced knowledge of tools like Liquibase, pg_bouncer, and database connectors.

Familiarity with multi-cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).

Database Operations:

Mastery in designing and managing complex DDL and DML operations, including stored procedures and triggers.

Extensive experience with database telemetry, observability, and performance monitoring tools.

Proven ability to develop and implement advanced disaster recovery and backup solutions.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Expertise in data masking, data governance, and regulatory compliance.

Leadership in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for database operations.

Strong understanding of security frameworks and advanced encryption techniques for databases.

Experience with distributed databases, sharding strategies, and large-scale data integration processes.

Familiarity with advanced GCP services such as BigQuery, Dataflow, and Looker for analytics integration.
