Our growth is made possible by the dedicated team of hundreds behind the scenes. From software developers and product managers to designers and strategists, Team UI is driven to achieve our common goal: Rethinking IT.
At Ubiquiti, you’ll heighten your potential and broaden your horizons, all while shaping the future of connectivity.
Role Summary
We’re looking for an optical engineer to join our fast-moving, innovation-driven Optical Engineering team. In this role, you’ll help drive camera image quality and LED optical performance across product lines—working hands-on with color science, experimentation, and scripting to solve real-world challenges. We love bold ideas, challenge the norm, and create smart solutions to complex problems. If you're excited to turn big ideas into meaningful product improvements and help shape the future of connectivity, we’d love to have you on the team.
Responsibilities (What he/she will do after joining UI)
- Take charge of color calibration and image quality improvements for camera modules, including ISP tuning and validation across different product lines.
- Work closely with teams across optics, hardware, firmware, manufacturing, and process engineering to evaluate LED light behavior and material scattering—especially for LED inspection and Ethernet connector applications.
- Plan and run experiments to validate color gamut, LED uniformity, and scattering characteristics using sound scientific approaches.
- Write Python or MATLAB scripts to automate testing, process production data, and support image analysis workflows.
- Review factory test results—such as LED luminance, color variation, and connector inspection data—to spot issues and help improve yield and performance.
- Support R&D in color science by assessing new materials, fine-tuning optical designs, and improving overall color consistency.
- Document your findings in clear technical reports and take part in cross-regional discussions with global teams.
Requirement (Must-Haves)
- Solid background in optics and color science, with hands-on understanding of color spaces like sRGB, Adobe RGB, and XYZ, plus a good grasp of color theory.
- Familiar with how LEDs work, including light-emitting behavior, scattering effects, and how to evaluate optical materials.
- Experience working with camera systems, especially in color correction, ISP tuning, and overall image quality calibration.
- Comfortable writing simple scripts in Python or MATLAB for data analysis, automation, or image processing tasks.
- Works well with cross-functional teams—whether it's engineering, process, or manufacturing—and knows how to keep things moving smoothly.
- Able to dig into production test data, spot issues, and help figure out root causes of color or optical problems.
- Holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field like Optical Engineering, Physics, EE, or Color Science.
- Can read technical papers and write up basic reports in English; experience working across global teams is a nice plus.
- 3+ years of experience testing or validating optical components or systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in LED inspection, optical component validation, or Ethernet connector optical testing.
- Familiarity with mass production environments and manufacturing data systems (e.g., MES, SPC).
- Knowledge of camera sensor behavior, lens effects, and light-material interaction.
- Involvement in camera module development or consumer electronics imaging products.
- Demonstrated ownership in cross-functional development projects from concept to mass production.
- Growth mindset, strong accountability, and ability to adapt in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- 6+ years of relevant industry experience.
