Data Solutions Engineer

The Role

Solutions Engineers at TripleLift are entrepreneurially minded engineers who leverage their strong technical experience along with business acumen to help internal and external stakeholders achieve their goals. Data Solutions is a division that uses data to solve business problems. Alongside requests from the larger business, here are some problems we are currently solving:

• Data Tool Optimization: Identifying the appropriate tools for the most common use cases, enterprise-wide
• Terminology: Creating and socializing a shared language between Commercial, Product, Engineering and Data teams
• Hierarchical Modeling: Representing the current state of our technology stack in a series of increasingly specific diagrams

The Data Solutions Engineer has a passion for solving logistical issues. They need to understand how data is captured by our system, how various colleagues need to use the data, and strive to minimize the difficulty of answering questions with data. As comprehension of the system grows, the engineer will specify and launch their own projects and investigations to continue driving our core mandate: Shorten the path from raw data to actionable insights.

Responsibilities

Data Solutions spans three subject areas:

Business Intelligence

• Assist with custom analyses using Business Intelligence tools
• Develop subject matter expertise in one or more layers of the business

Data Platform Management

• Develop and Support existing Data platform Applications
• Facilitate a path to self service through deep understanding of user workflows and tool optimization

Data Governance

• Create and enforce risk rubric for Personally identifiable information (PII)
• Support of initiatives in Privacy and Identity

Desired Skills and Attributes

• Technical experience, especially with data technologies. This includes datastores & querying frameworks (MySQL, Redshift, PostgreSQL), BI Tools (Looker, PowerBI, Tableau), and production technical stacks;
• Familiarity with components of a modern data tech stack (Airflow, Snowflake, dbt, Databricks, Kafka and AWS, specifically S3)
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, particularly in conveying technical concepts in a manner that is easy for clients and non-technical partners to understand through documentation and presentation;
• Strong experience in requirements gathering and testing with business stakeholders
• Excellent quantitative skills and comfort with data exploration tools such as Excel, SQL, numpy, R, Spark/Scala, etc;
• Demonstrated experience in owning projects end to end that involves coordinating many resources and teams and integration of testing as a practice;
• Ability to code in Spark and Python;
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving abilities with a tenacious commitment to finding the root cause of issues;
• Curiosity and interest in improving existing processes;
• Ability to work under intense pressure and multitask in a fast-paced start-up environment

Education Requirement

• Studies in computer science, engineering, mathematics, economics or technical field.
• Studies in advertising, communications, marketing, or other discipline with demonstrated technical exposure

Experience Requirement

Minimum of 2-5 years of work experience in customer support, technical solutions, engineering, or other technical position.  A graduate degree with publication can substitute for work experience.
