Job Description
Trimble is recruiting for a Lead Software Development Engineer in Test to fill an opportunity in Chennai, India.
Job Purpose
We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test to create and conduct both manual and automated tests to uphold product quality.
The responsibilities of the SDET involve developing test cases, performing manual testing, and designing and implementing automated UI/API tests for web and mobile applications.
The responsibilities will also encompass overseeing all phases of software development to detect and address system malfunctions to meet quality standards.
The candidate is also anticipated to manage the Indian and US time zones effectively to attend client calls, handle production issues, and so forth.
Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the team's efficiency and effectiveness in testing and quality assurance activities
Should have experience with agile methodologies, monitoring all stages of software development to identify and resolve system malfunctions to meet quality standards.
Should be able to assess and communicate potential risks related to software quality, helping the team to prioritize testing efforts based on the potential impact.
Main Responsibilities
Creating test plans and test cases based on project requirements and specifications.
Designing and developing automated test scripts to verify software functionality.
Executing test cases manually/automated tests to verify software functionality and identify defects.
Documenting test results, defects, and any relevant information in test management tools or defect tracking systems.
Collaborating with developers and other team members to understand software requirements and specifications.
Maintaining and updating existing automated test suites to accommodate changes in software features or functionality.
Participating in requirement review meetings and providing input on testability aspects of software requirements.
Conducting regression testing to ensure that previously developed functionality still works after changes or updates.
Performing exploratory testing to uncover hidden defects or usability issues that may not be covered by formal test cases.
Identifying areas for test automation and proposing strategies for implementing automation effectively.
Ensuring that automated tests are integrated into the continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline.
Participating in code reviews and providing feedback on testability aspects of software code.
Troubleshooting and debugging automated test scripts and resolving any issues that arise.
Contributing to the overall improvement of testing processes and methodologies within the organization.
Staying updated on emerging trends and technologies in automation testing to enhance testing practices and efficiency.
Continuously learning and improving testing skills, techniques, and methodologies to enhance the quality of testing efforts within the organization.
Able to review the Acceptance criteria for the groomed stories.
Conducting Bug Triage with the POs to ensure the bugs are tracking properly
Key Result Area
Timely delivery of test cases and automated tests on a sprint-to-sprint basis.
Automation coverage to be at least 80% (80% of manual test cases must be automated).
Effective reporting of work and reports.
Skillsets
Hands-on experience in test automation of at least 4 years is a must.
Strong in a programming language like Java, C#, Typescript, Python etc.
Hands-on experience in Windows/Mobile/Web application testing.
Web Technologies and Protocols:
Understanding web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Familiar with HTTP, HTTPS, RESTful APIs, Angular, React, jQuery
Automation Frameworks and Tools:
Proficiency in automation frameworks like Selenium/Playwright/Cypress.
Test automation tools such as TestNG, JUnit, or NUnit.
To be familiar with Pattern types like POM(Page Object Model) & Data Driven.
Candidates with hands-on experience on AWS/Azure for testing/automation or knowledge/certification in AWS/Azure will be preferred.
Web Element Locators:
Ability to identify and locate web elements (CSS selectors, XPath expressions, HTML attributes, class names)
Understanding of dynamic elements,
iframes, shadow DOM, and handling different element states.
API Testing:
Understanding the principles and characteristics of APIs
Knowledge in constructing requests, parsing responses, and identifying issues.
Knowledge in writing scripts using Postman/SOAPUI/REST Assured
Able to create, send, and analyze HTTP requests.
Performance testing tools:
Understanding types of performance tests load/stress/endurance testing
Understanding performance metrics (response time, throughput, concurrency)
Skills to identify bottlenecks, and diagnose performance issues
Familiarity with tools like JMeter/LoadRunner/Gatling
Solely handle Test Environment Setup
Understanding networking concepts, protocols (e.g., TCP/IP),
Understanding network-related issues
Testing Concepts:
Writing test strategy, test plan and test case, and test execution
Version Control Systems:
Bitbucket / GitHub
Managing code changes
Collaborating with other team members
Maintaining a history of code revisions.
Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD):
Tools like Jenkins/Bamboo/Buildkite
Integrating the automation into CI/CD pipelines

Qualifications & Experience
Graduated from a premier institute.
B.E / B.Tech or M.E / M.Tech / M.S. in Computer Science Engineering or an equivalent degree with a good JEE / AIEEE / GATE score.
10th Grade: State Boards 90%. Central or International Boards: 80%
12th Grade: State Boards 90%. Central or International Boards: 80%
An impressive performance in any national-level Olympiad or talent search examination would be a valuable asset.
Presenting a paper at a national-level forum, contributing to open-source projects, and participating in standards bodies would be beneficial additions.
Working experience in a tier-1 organization for a period of min 3 to 8 years.
Supervisory Responsibility
May have to manage a team of 1-2 members
