What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

As a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll:

• Architect and Build Solutions: Design and deliver cutting-edge Toast products using technologies such as Kotlin, DynamoDB, React, Pulsar, Camel, GraphQL, and Big Data technologies.
• Collaborate on Data Platforms: Work with Data Platform teams to develop best-in-class reporting and analytics products.
• Write and Review Code: Document solution designs, write code, and review your team’s work to ensure quality and scalability.
• Optimize Performance: Collaborate with peers to design flexible and scalable solutions that empower multiple engineering teams.
• Partner with Teams: Work with UX, Product Management, QA, and partner engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions in a complex environment.
• Mentor Engineers: Coach and mentor team members on industry best practices and scalable development techniques.

What You Bring (Required Skills):

• Experience:
  • 13+ years in software development with a proven track record of delivering high-quality, reliable, and scalable services.
  • Expertise in building and scaling mission-critical platform components.
  • Hands-on experience in AI, Cloud, Image Processing, and Full-Stack Development.
  • Specific Focus: Experience in data platforms, reporting, analytics, and strong exposure to customer-facing products, especially in the commerce and accounting space.
    
    
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Strong knowledge of database technologies (SQL Server, Postgres, DynamoDB).
  • Expertise in object-oriented programming languages (Java, Kotlin, C#).
• Problem-Solving:
  • Adept at tackling complex, ambiguous challenges and driving team success through effective communication and collaboration.
• Agile Mindset:
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Leadership:
  • Proven ability to mentor and inspire other engineers.
  • Skilled at balancing quick delivery with long-term platform stability.

Our Tech Stack:

Our backend services utilize microservice architecture with Java 8 and DropWizard, alongside cloud solutions like AWS. We leverage sharded Postgres databases and Apache Spark for data workloads. The front-end is built primarily with React and ES6, while our Android application uses Java and Kotlin. Additional tools include RabbitMQ, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, SageMaker, and Redshift.
