Our consulting services include materials research, specialty analyses, detailed design, engineering and construction support, and glass and façade failure investigations. Nearly two-thirds of the facades we design and engineer are based on customized systems that involved unique combinations of materials.

The Role

Thornton Tomasetti, Inc. seeks Senior Engineer; Façade Engineering in New York, NY to coordinate activities with project managers, other engineers, and architects. Requirements: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or a related field and two (2) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation: designing and analyzing building structures using Finite Element based computer modeling methods including Strand 7; preparing façade detailing in 2D and 3D format using software including AutoCAD, Rhino, and Bluebeam; working with building codes including calculating vertical and lateral loading, and designing and detailing structural members in steel, aluminum, glass, and wood; performing Quality Assurance controlled field inspection visits for conformance with design documents. 15% travel required nationally and internationally. Telecommuting and/or working from home may be permissible pursuant to company policies. When not telecommuting, must report to work site. OSHA 10 certificate required. Responsibilities

• Analyzes façade performance with specialized software (i.e. loading, thermal analysis, condensation risk, geometry).

• Researches materials and systems to determine specific project suitability.

• Interprets building codes and project/design/construction specifications.

• Prepares façade detailing in 2D and 3D format for client communication.

• Assists in construction administration, responding to RFIs, and organizing submittal logs.

• Attends construction meetings, performs site inspections, and prepares field reports for clients.

• Interacts with team members and clients regarding project information.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture. Master’s degree preferred.

• Must have façade experience for small-scale projects.

• Ability and willingness to travel within the US and internationally.

Compensation

The rate for this position generally is $121,422 - $121,422 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
