We perform research, mathematical modeling, software development and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants and automotive and airborne vehicles. Military, government, corporate and academic clients’ value the validation of Applied Science’s software and the critical insights gained from correlating analysis with testing.

Your Role

We have an opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our Applied Science team in Perth, Australia where we use our expert knowledge to develop technical and bespoke solutions for our clients. Our clients include Oil & Gas and petrochemical operators, Engineering, Construction, Procurement and Maintenance (EPCM) contractors as well as specialised consultants and industry bodies. Our office is a client-facing business and our projects will offer many opportunities for you to engage with clients from the earliest days of your career. What You’ll Do

The role is dependent upon both the experience and skillset of the applicant and the projects underway in the office but will require supporting projects in the field of Process Safety Management. Recent example activities include:

• Fire Load Response Analysis;
• Hydrocarbon fire modelling and gas dispersion analysis for processing facilities;
• Safety Management Systems and auditing;
• Safety Case support;
• Process Safety Management;
• Risk assessment, qualitative and quantitative;
• Seismic assessment and design; and
• Blast analysis and design.

You will also perform project management activities:

• Prepare project proposals and support business growth
• Manage projects, ensuring timely, on-budget and in-scope delivery
• Present results and recommendations to clients ensuring they understand the value and implications of the findings

What You’ll Bring

Candidates must hold as a minimum:

• A Bachelors degree, preferably in Engineering, Physics or Applied Mathematics
• 5-10 years’ of experience in process safety engineering or a related discipline
• Able to demonstrate excellent understanding of fundamental principles and strong problem-solving ability.
• Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents at the time of application.
• Key qualities are a willingness to learn new skills, to listen to the problem and to be open-minded about the solution. A passion to tackle new and interesting problems is essential.
