Position Summary

We are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join a growing R&D team in Hyderabad supporting sustaining engineering, VAVE, and lifecycle management for the KingFisher sample preparation systems and Detection instruments.

In this role, you will serve as a technical lead for mechanical engineering initiatives, driving design improvements, resolving complex technical issues, and ensuring robust mechanical system performance across product lifecycles. You will play a key role in sustaining and VAVE efforts, while contributing to system integration and helping build capability toward future product development ownership.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineering Leadership

  • Act as a technical lead for mechanical systems and subsystems, including assemblies, mechanisms, enclosures, and thermal/structural components.

  • Lead design, analysis, and troubleshooting of mechanical components and systems.

  • Drive root cause investigations for mechanical and system-level issues, including field failures and reliability concerns.

  • Support design trade-offs, material selection, and tolerance analysis to optimize performance, cost, and manufacturability.

Sustaining Engineering & Lifecycle Management

  • Lead mechanical workstreams for sustaining activities, including design updates, component obsolescence, and supplier changes.

  • Ensure designs meet reliability, durability, and manufacturability requirements

  • Partner with global teams to support knowledge transfer and maintain product continuity.

Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE)

  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities within mechanical designs and assemblies.

  • Collaborate with sourcing and manufacturing to evaluate alternative materials, components, and suppliers

  • Drive design for cost and scalability across platforms.

System Integration & Technical Contribution

  • Collaborate with systems, electrical, and software teams to ensure robust system integration

  • Contribute to system requirements, interface definitions, and verification activities

  • Provide input to technology and product roadmap discussions from a mechanical engineering perspective.

Global & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with global R&D teams (Finland, US, Singapore) to support technical alignment and knowledge transfer.

  • Partner with Business Unit Product Management to align engineering execution with product priorities.

  • Interface with manufacturing, quality, service, and sourcing to resolve issues and improve product performance.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building mechanical engineering capability within the team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering for complex products or instrumentation

  • Strong experience in mechanical design, CAD modeling, and tolerance analysis

  • Proven ability in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and design improvements

  • Experience working in cross-functional and global engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with life sciences or analytical instrumentation (e.g., sample prep, PCR/qPCR).

  • Experience with VAVE, cost optimization, and design for manufacturability (DFM/DFA)

  • Familiarity with thermal analysis, fluidics integration, or precision mechanisms

  • Experience with regulated product development environments

  • Ability to influence and collaborate across teams

Impact

  • Serves as a technical lead for mechanical engineering initiatives across platforms.

  • Drives execution of sustaining engineering and VAVE efforts within the mechanical domain.

  • Contributes to system-level performance, reliability, and cost improvements

  • Supports the growth of R&D capability in Hyderabad.
