Join our colleagues in bringing our Mission to life every single day to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We provide our global teams with the resources needed to achieve individual career goals while helping to take science a step beyond by developing solutions for some of the world’s toughest challenges, like protecting the environment, making sure our food is safe or helping find cures for cancer.

DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a highly experienced Electrical Engineer III – Precision Robotics & Mechatronics with expertise in robotic automation, mechatronic systems, precision motion, and sample handling technologies to support the design, development, and lifecycle management of Electron Microscope (SEM, TEM, DualBeam/FIB-SEM) products. This role is responsible for designing and integrating robotic and mechatronic subsystems that enable precise sample handling, positioning, automation, and instrument functionality while ensuring high levels of accuracy, repeatability, reliability, and product performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and optimize robotic and mechatronic systems for Electron Microscopy platforms and adjacent high-precision instrumentation.
  • Develop precision sample handling mechanisms, robotic transfer systems, end-effectors, grippers, and automation modules.
  • Design precision motion mechanisms incorporating servo motors, linear actuators, encoders, sensors, and precision transmission components.
  • Apply robotics, kinematics, and mechatronic design principles to achieve high positioning accuracy, repeatability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with Controls, Software, Systems, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering teams to integrate robotic subsystems into complete products.
  • Evaluate the technical impact of design changes on robotic systems, product functionality, manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability.
  • Review mechanical designs, specifications, tolerance analyses, and engineering documentation for robotic and automation systems.
  • Strengthen subsystem specification and technical ownership, including working with vendors from requirements through integration, characterization, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support
  • Lead Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to reduce product cost while maintaining or improving performance and quality
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, root cause investigations, and engineering change management activities.
  • Drive continuous improvements in product performance, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost through engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline.
  • 8–12 years of experience in robotics, mechatronics, precision motion systems, or electromechanical product development.
  • Strong understanding of robotics, automation systems, motion control, servo systems, and mechanism design.
  • Experience designing precision robotic assemblies, end-effectors, automated handling systems, or electromechanical products.
  • Experience integrating mechanical systems with motors, encoders, sensors, actuators, and control hardware.
  • Strong knowledge of precision mechanical design, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and machine design principles.
  • Experience assessing engineering changes and understanding their impact on system performance, product reliability, and manufacturing.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, or Siemens NX.
  • Working knowledge of Teamcenter or equivalent Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Electron Microscopes (SEM, TEM, DualBeam/FIB-SEM) or similar scientific instrumentation.
  • Semiconductor wafer-handling/automation experience. Precision-stage performance, motion-system error budgets, and the ability to evaluate standard/vendor solutions versus custom designs
  • Knowledge on Servo motion systems, Kinematics and dynamics, Precision positioning systems, Linear motion technologies, Bearings, guides, ball screws, direct-drive motors, and actuators
  • Familiarity with robotic calibration, precision alignment, and performance validation

Preferred Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex simulation and experimental data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in global cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational and project execution skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with focus on innovation and engineering excellence.
