Job Description

IND Senior Staff Software Engineer - GCC020

We’re determined to make a difference and are proud to be an insurance company that goes well beyond coverages and policies. Working here means having every opportunity to achieve your goals – and to help others accomplish theirs, too. Join our team as we help shape the future.

You are a driven and motivated problem solver ready to pursue meaningful work with strong technical, design and architectural skills. You strive to make an impact every day - not only at work, but in your personal life and community too. If that sounds like you, then you've landed in the right place.

The Hartford is seeking a transformative, customer-centric Solution Architect to join the Claims and Operations IT team supporting core financial, billing, and operational platforms as we progress through our modernization agenda. This role will focus on scalable platform architecture, financial workflows, and experience-driven capabilities, delivering value across lines of business. If you’re a passionate technical leader with a continuous learning mindset and motivation to stay on top of the latest trends in emerging technologies such as AI/GenAI, cloud platforms (AWS), APIs, event-driven architectures, microservices/micro frontends, SaaS solutions, and platform engineering, then this position is for you.

This is a technical leadership position that allows you to apply your strong application design, development, and excellent communication skills. This position will be responsible for conceptualizing and designing innovative end-to-end software architectures that enable strategic business objectives across transactional financial systems, operational workflows, and digital servicing platforms. You will create end-to-end AI-enabled and digital-first solution designs, including intelligent automation, document processing, and decisioning, spanning across multiple components and technologies in a dynamic, Agile environment. You will also provide technical leadership to project teams as the solution design progresses through implementation into run.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to influence business leaders and shape the business vision by aligning technology strategies with business goals, ensuring that our cloud- and AI-first approach drives impactful outcomes across modernization initiatives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leverage AI and Generative AI capabilities to accelerate solution design and engineering productivity, including rapid prototyping, architecture pattern generation, intelligent code assistance, and synthesis of technical insights. Apply these capabilities to enhance product analysis, improve decision-making, and drive faster, higher-quality delivery outcomes.
  • Drive hands-on development of proof-of-concepts (POCs) and reference implementations, generating functional code aligned to defined requirements to validate architecture patterns, de-risk solutions, and provide delivery teams with a clear and practical runway to accelerate execution and scale adoption.
  • Establish and drive clear, effective, and innovative solution designs aligning to The Hartford’s reference architectures, blueprints, and business and IT strategies across core platforms and financial/operational ecosystems, with a focus on AI and strategic thinking.
  • Develop architectural standards and designs for customer-facing and internal servicing capabilities, including digital experiences and operational workflows, incorporating a visionary approach and end-to-end solutioning with a big picture mindset.
  • Align solutions to The Hartford’s reference architectures, blueprints, and business and IT strategies, ensuring they are plug-and-play and leverage APIs, event-driven integrations, reusable services, and platform-based architectures.
  • Ensure alignment with security standards, authentication, authorization, and enterprise compliance requirements, while integrating vendor platforms, SaaS solutions, and AI/ML services into the ecosystem.
  • Provide design supporting the migration of platforms and applications to the cloud, including modernization of legacy systems into cloud-native, containerized, and event-driven architectures, taking advantage of rationalization opportunities to reduce costs and promote a frugal architecture mindset.
  • Design solutions leveraging SaaS and Native Cloud architectures and services, including AI services, data platforms, and integration layers, focusing on scalable and reusable architecture patterns.
  • Develop designs and integrations spanning both Mobile and Responsive Web, ensuring digital capabilities are accessible across customer, agent, and internal roles.
  • Participate with agile teams to ensure architecture standards are being maintained, promoting a platform, product, and API-first engineering model.
  • Frequently interact with peers and senior leaders as part of a cross-functional team, influencing business leaders and shaping business vision.
  • Work within a matrixed environment, expanding knowledge of The Hartford’s lines of business and end-to-end operational and financial workflows.
  • Emphasize cost-conscious architecture and frugal architecture principles, ensuring that solutions are designed to be cost-effective and efficient, particularly across high-volume transactional and event-driven workloads.
  • Foster a mindset of building platforms and products that prioritize speed to market and lower maintenance costs, leveraging cloud-native services, reusable platforms, and AI capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of hands-on experience in designing and implementing robust enterprise-level digital and platform solutions with a broad understanding of traditional and modern software technology frameworks, platforms, vendor software solutions, development tools, and processes.
  • Cloud certifications and architecture certifications are a plus.
  • Experience developing or designing single-page applications utilizing contemporary frameworks such as Angular/React, supporting modern digital and operational interfaces.
  • Experience designing and implementing cloud-based solutions utilizing Microservices or API-based integrations with a clear understanding of JSON, REST, and HTTP standards, including event streaming and asynchronous messaging patterns.
  • Clear understanding of cloud, hybrid cloud, and container deployment architectures including building cloud-ready applications and container orchestration systems supporting scalable, distributed applications.
  • Experience of working with agile development teams delivering platform and product-based solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and technical writing skills with the ability to effectively communicate solution recommendations and influence key stakeholders.
  • Experience with multi-cloud environments and AI technologies, demonstrating the ability to design and implement solutions that leverage these technologies to drive business value and innovation, including GenAI use cases, intelligent automation, and data-driven decisioning.
  • Experience with Micro Frontends (MFEs), demonstrating the ability to design and implement modular and scalable front-end architectures.
