Master's Thesis Internship – Test Bench Support for Space Applications

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

The Exploration Company is offering an exciting 6-month internship opportunity for a highly motivated Master's student specializing in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. As part of our team in Bordeaux, you will provide hands-on support in preparing, executing, and analyzing experiments on small test benches, including igniters, thrusters, cryogenic pumps, cryogenic heat exchangers. This is a unique chance to gain practical experience and contribute to the development of innovative aerospace technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation and setup of small-scale test benches for igniters, thrusters, cryogenic pumps, and cryogenic heat exchangers…

• Develop and refine test procedures, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.

• Actively participate in test campaigns, including operating cryogenic systems and managing data acquisition equipment.

• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges during testing activities.

• Perform post-test analyses, including processing experimental data, interpreting results, and drafting technical reports.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize test methodologies and contribute to ongoing projects.

Qualifications:

• Enrolled in a Master’s program in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.

• Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer principles.

• Experience with experimental setups, data acquisition systems, and instrumentation is an advantage.

• Familiarity with cryogenic systems or propulsion technologies is a plus.

• Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB …) for data analysis.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
