TIM Senior Controls Engineer

Location: Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Change the world. Love your job.
Texas Instruments (TI) is looking for an experienced Facilities Control Engineer to join our team. As a Facilities Engineer at TI, you'll be directly responsible for building utility systems in support of a semiconductor wafer fab. TI Facilities operates over 150 different utility systems that include chemicals, gasses, variety of electrical systems, water systems, HVAC, waste, vacuum, and controls. These systems are designed to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruption, creating a state of the art manufacturing environment. Facilities works closely with TI's manufacturing team to understand how the utility systems impact the process as well as how to reduce consumption.

Job Overview

Texas Instruments is seeking an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to join Central Engineering organization. This high-value technical role focuses on cross-site controls standardization, automation system reliability enhancement, AI-driven smart controls innovation, digital transformation, and strategic controls project execution across all TI Asia sites.

This position serves as the controls automation subject matter expert (SME) for facility systems. The role drives systemic controls improvement, standardized automation design philosophy, scalable controls solutions, AI/ML-based intelligent optimization, and long-term automation roadmap execution aligned with Asia Strategy Solutions and FOF organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Discipline Technical Depth & Cross-Site Standardization.

• Build strong technical depth within the facility controls discipline and ensure consistent technology execution and standardized engineering standards across all Asia sites.

• Centralize technical knowledge, failure analysis data, and lesson-learned databases to replace localized site practices with enterprise-level best practices.

• Conduct regular system technical assessments, FMEA reliability analysis for control loops, interlock logic, SCADA communication and alarm systems, develop long-term discipline reliability roadmaps and mitigate latent systemic risks.

• Collaborate closely with the Asia Strategy Solutions team to align local engineering activities with regional strategic priorities, control system roadmap, digital innovation targets, and cross-site improvement initiatives.

• Mentor junior engineers and technicians, elevate overall discipline technical competency, and support country-level engineering capability development.

2. Advanced Technical Support & Operational Excellence.

• Provide high-level technical engineering support for full spectrum of facility control systems: PLC programming & configuration, Wonderware SCADA platforms, HMI screen design, tag management, trend configuration, reporting architecture, instrument control loops, interlock logic and industrial communication networks.

• Monitor control system health metrics including controller load, communication status, alarm statistics, automation uptime and loop performance; support factory teams to maintain stable automatic operation of all utility systems.

• Lead advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technical resolution for complex control system disruptions, logic excursions, communication failures and recurring nuisance alarms, eliminating systemic issues instead of handling routine operational tasks.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce unplanned downtime, minimize abnormal alarms, optimize control stability and overall facility operating cost via structured engineering methodology.

• Develop, review, and deploy standardized cross-site control philosophy, sequence of operation (SOO), network architecture standards and automation design guidelines to unify engineering practice across TI facilities.

3. New Technology Study, Evaluation & Industrial Application (AI Focused)

• Conduct industry benchmarking, technical research, and feasibility study for emerging control systems, smart facility automation, digital twin, AI / Machine Learning (ML) predictive control, anomaly detection and intelligent monitoring technologies.

• Evaluate new controller hardware, advanced software platforms, edge computing solutions, innovative sensing technologies and AI algorithm frameworks for potential fab implementation.

• Perform technical comparison, cost-benefit analysis, risk assessment, and pilot study planning for smart automation and AI technology adoption.

• Lead trial verification, function validation, technical qualification, and full-scale deployment of proven AI-driven control solutions, predictive failure analytics and intelligent optimization algorithms across TI facility automation systems.

• Drive technical iteration, automation innovation, and digital transformation upgrade roadmap to enhance control responsiveness, equipment uptime, operational efficiency and long-term sustainability.

• Clarify role boundaries and technical handoffs between Central Engineering and site Operations teams for troubleshooting, escalation workflows, and improvement initiatives.

4. Capital & Expense Project Leadership

• Lead full-lifecycle delivery of capital and expense engineering projects including control system performance optimization, automation upgrades, new installation, instrumentation retrofit, HMI modernization, and AI smart system implementation projects.

• Define standardized project scopes, control technical specifications, bid packages, and construction documents to achieve consistent project quality and replicable engineering solutions across multiple sites.

• Oversee project design, procurement, construction supervision, commissioning, startup validation, and formal handover; strictly control project schedule, budget, quality, risk management, and scope change control.

• Drive scalable and replicable engineering solutions that support the centralized CE operating model and benefit overall Asia site fleet performance.

• Track project outcomes, summarize technical learnings, and deliver regular progress reports to Central Engineering and regional leadership teams.

5. Automation Data Optimization & Cross-Functional Partnership

• Analyze control trending data, alarm KPIs, automation logs and loop performance data to identify optimization gaps and support data-driven intelligent improvement.

• Establish and manage control system performance dashboards, alarm analytics frameworks to track automation health and drive reliability enhancement.

• Maintain strong collaborative partnership with mechanical, electrical, process, site Operations, Maintenance, Manufacturing, and ESHS teams to align control integration requirements and resolve cross-disciplinary technical challenges.

• Provide technical input for performance metric setup, alarm rationalization, alarm setpoint optimization, and trend monitoring to support proactive system optimization.

6. ESHS & Systemic Improvement Focus

• Ensure all engineering designs, improvements, and project implementations fully comply with TI ESHS standards and code requirements.

• Identify cross-site systemic gaps, recurring control failure modes, and automation bottlenecks; execute structured improvement roadmaps to elevate fleet-level control reliability and efficiency.
