Position Summary
Pioneering Medicines is seeking a Director of Machine Learning and Data Science to join the Research Team. The ideal candidate would have a deep experience in biotechnology as applied to drug discovery with a thorough understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies and techniques, and a proven track record of designing, developing, and deploying innovative machine learning solutions within a drug discovery setting.
In this role you will help forge and maintain partnerships between Pioneering Medicines and our Flagship Pioneering AI/ML partner companies and business units to assist our understanding of platform technologies and how they may be applied to the discovery, design and development of novel targets and therapeutics. Additionally, as a subject matter expert within Research, you will provide guidance and leadership to project teams implementing AI/ML solutions from the Flagship ecosystem for the discovery and development of novel therapeutics.
This role will be based at our Cambridge, MA location. We have a hybrid model and onsite presence 3 times per week is required.
Responsibilities
- Forge partnerships with Flagship Pioneering AI/ML partner companies and business units, across the Flagship ecosystem, to better understand platform technologies and how they may be applied to the discovery, design and development of novel targets and therapeutics.
- Directly engage with scientists and Pioneering Medicine’s Leadership to impart key insights gathered across the Flagship ecosystem and lead their incorporation into strategic planning.
- Ensure the validity and utility of AI/ML drug discovery approaches employed by Pioneering Medicines.
- As a subject matter expert, provide guidance and leadership to project teams implementing AI/ML solutions from the Flagship ecosystem for the discovery and development of novel therapeutics.
- Assess analytical needs across project teams and research functions to identify high-potential use cases for advanced analytics to propel advances in the therapeutic discovery pipeline.
- Work with the Bioinformatics team towards developing needed AI/ML tools as well as providing guidance on related inherent analyses.
Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Physics or a related field
- 5+ years of AI/ML experience
- 3+ years working within the biopharma industry
- Experience as a member or leader of drug discovery/preclinical project teams applying AI/ML techniques to biological or drug discovery applications
- Fluency in Python, R or other broadly used programming languages.
- Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms and principles.
- Ability to explain complex topics to a non-technical audience.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic matrix environment.
