Description

Flagship Pioneering is a biotechnology company that invents and builds platform companies, each with the potential for multiple products that transform human health or sustainability. We create about six new companies every year and incubate them through successive rounds of funding.

Since launching in 2000, Flagship has originated and fostered more than 100 scientific ventures, resulting in more than $90 billion in aggregate value.

Many of the companies Flagship has founded have addressed humanity’s most urgent challenges: vaccinating billions of people against COVID-19, curing intractable diseases, improving human health, preempting illness, and feeding the world by improving the resiliency and sustainability of agriculture.

Flagship has been recognized twice on FORTUNE’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that have made a positive social and environmental impact through activities that are part of their core business strategies, and has been twice named to Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies. Position Overview:

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative individual with a passion for building and learning to join our Digital Systems team. In this role, you will develop and oversee AI-enabled applications designed to accelerate scientific discovery. Your responsibilities will include the development, deployment, and management of software solutions tailored to the unique needs of Flagship portfolio companies, Pioneering Medicines, and Pioneering Intelligence. This involves evaluating emerging tools and frameworks and collaborating closely with these companies and functions to create customized digital solutions.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing AI applications, a solid understanding of software engineering principles, and the curiosity and capability to delve into scientific challenges. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation in the intersection of technology and science within a forward-thinking organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop AI-powered applications to rapidly validate MVPs.
  • Leverage AWS cloud infrastructure for scalable and efficient deployment of AI models.
  • Collaborate closely with the Pioneering Intelligence Research to ensure AI solutions are informed by cutting-edge research.
  • Maintain and improve the internal facing LLM Chat application.
  • Develop user-friendly interfaces to integrate AI capabilities into operational workflows.
  • Uphold high standards of data security and compliance across all AI applications.
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and joint initiatives with research teams.
  • Contribute to the development of training programs for effective use of AI tools across the enterprise.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.
  • Demonstrated ability to build AI enabled applications. This could include full stack apps, utilities, or anything that shows you can deliver working AI-enabled software.
  • Experience with LLM Libraries (LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.) and cloud services (preferably AWS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a passion for innovation and product development.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with the Life Sciences and Biotechnology industry.
  • Exposure to AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • AWS Certifications, including Solutions Architect, Data Analytics, or Machine Learning.

Values and Behaviors:

We are looking for a constant learner who is mission-oriented, has an entrepreneurial spirit, and is comfortable contributing to a dynamic and cross-functional team environment. The level of the role will be commensurate with the education and years of experience of the identified candidate.

Flagship Pioneering and our ecosystem companies are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status.

At Flagship, we recognize there is no perfect candidate. If you have some of the experience listed above but not all, please apply anyway. Experience comes in many forms, skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way. We are dedicated to building diverse and inclusive teams and look forward to learning more about your unique background.

Recruitment & Staffing Agencies:  Flagship Pioneering and its affiliated Flagship Lab companies (collectively, “FSP”) do not accept unsolicited resumes from any source other than candidates.  The submission of unsolicited resumes by recruitment or staffing agencies to FSP or its employees is strictly prohibited unless contacted directly by Flagship Pioneering’s internal Talent Acquisition team.   Any resume submitted by an agency in the absence of a signed agreement will automatically become the property of FSP, and FSP will not owe any referral or other fees with respect thereto.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We prioritize job seekers as our customers, unlike bigger job sites, by charging a small fee to provide them with curated access to the best companies and up-to-date jobs. This focus allows us to deliver a more personalized and effective job search experience.
  • Salaries for the engineering jobs on our site range from $100K-$200K. On average, senior engineer positions on our EchoJobs are about $160K.
  • The EchoJobs positions have been sourced and vetted from the top companies to work for in the US as a software engineer, including LinkedIn and other reputable job sites. We also have syndicated jobs from companies that have just raised funding, as well as those that have great unique products and culture. From all of these sources, our founder, Morgan, has also resourced the company's authenticity in terms of their website, public appearance, and more.
  • Yes, our users asked us for just this, so now our search filters allow you to search for your top jobs via location, as well as by onsite, remote, or both. Approximately 30% of our jobs are remote, so you’ve got the best options for you!
  • We have not yet implemented this option, but are considering doing so in the future. For the moment, you would need to cancel your subscription, and resubscribe when you wanted to come back.
  • We add new jobs to EchoJobs every day! We scan our sources for the newest jobs, verify them, and post them to EchoJobs within minutes. We add about 2,000-3,000 new jobs for you each day!
  • From starting your job search to getting hired, the entire job search process can take us software engineers anywhere between 3-6 months. However, at EchoJobs, we’re striving to shorten this duration by finding the best, newest jobs for you, so you can do less job searching, and more applying.
  • We’d recommend checking EchoJobs daily, as we add new jobs to the site each day. Additionally, if you got a chance to read our previous email on “what makes EchoJobs different from any other job search tools,” we also recommended that you set a job alert based on your job filters, so if you get emails on those new jobs, you could be checking more than once per day.
  • If you decide to continue with us after the 1-month trial, we definitely recommend this, as we all know it usually takes 3-6 months to find a quality job as a software engineer these days. So to best support you, we just adjusted our membership options at EchoJobs to monthly, 3 months, or 12 months (this option is more for passive job seekers looking a little bit for the future if they want to come back to work or make a job switch potentially. This lets you see what’s out there in case an even better fit job becomes available.)
  • EchoJobs is truly the only job site of its kind. We want to be THE spot for you to find the best job for you, and haven’t encountered any other company doing this. Other job sites are in niches besides software engineering or focus on a small portion of engineering jobs (like a specific coding language). In the words of Morgan, our founder, “I think what makes EchoJobs different is the amount of jobs, frequency that we add new jobs (we add 2,000-3,000 new jobs daily!), and the powerful search engines to find exactly the job you want more easily and efficiently. We can provide you with the most jobs that are vetted by us, we’ll continually find more new jobs for you, and we make it easier for you to apply and get hired.
