Staff Cell Design Engineer

Battery cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. • Drive physical and electrochemical electrode design from concept to production, acting as the primary point of contact
• Interface with the broader cell development teams to define electrode design targets (fast charge, lifetime, cost, etc.) for current and future cell programs
• Work with cell materials component owners and mechanical design engineers to understand, document, and disseminate material and design options for the electrode stack
• Develop electrode design options (e.g., loading, density, composition, etc.) that meet performance and manufacturability targets for Tesla’s cells
• Combine upstream stack design targets with manufacturing and equipment process capability to determine realistic designs

• Degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience in lithium-ion cell design
• Familiarity with battery cell operation, design, and testing
• Excellent project management and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate and consolidate information across multiple stakeholders and teams
• Experience with taking a product or design from concept to manufacturing is a plus
