Job Summary

Provide and lead specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in network specific technology domains, including developing platform specific technology roadmaps and making technology investment recommendations to deliver products and infrastructure to defined service level standards.

Role Context

What is the purpose of this role?
• To provide and lead specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in network specific technology domains, including developing platform specific technology roadmaps and making technology investment recommendations, having due regard for how this technology inter-works with other technologies, to deliver products and infrastructure to defined service level standards.

How does the role contribute to business strategy?
• This role is an important contributor in ensuring that the Telstra network delivers a high quality, on-demand, stable and superior network experiences for our consumer and business customers.
• The role’s specialized telecommunications network skills and experience will help contribute to solution development, fault analysis, network analysis, design, development, testing and deployment in specific network technology domains, including how this technology inter-operates with other technologies.

What are the measurable outcomes of this role?
• Demonstrated end to end accountability and delivery of quality Engineering solutions in relation to detailed design, testing, integration, deployment management, delivery and technology performance as well as ongoing platform lifecycle management.


Key Accountabilities
As a Network Engineer, you draw on your breadth of knowledge and expertise in related areas of network engineering and actively apply agile and/or lean ways of working to deliver on the following responsibilities:
• Translate customer (internal, external or regulatory) needs and requirements, using technical principles into realizable products, services, or systems and/or networks infrastructure in a timely, quality and cost-effective way
• Design, build, install, test, integrate and maintain multiple complex network technologies, platforms and/or systems and their interaction with Telstra processes and systems to deliver products and services to customer business units.
• Design and develop network services, device (H/W, S/W, Network, Compute, and Application) automation and leveraging a wide variety of open source and commercial technologies.
• Perform Network audits, Network Migrations (including writing and reviewing Change Implementation Plan and the Method of Procedure document).
• Perform Network Layer and System Integration testing and lead the defect management during the test execution. Also produce the relevant test related documentation (Test Plan, Test cases, Test Summary Report)
• Perform approved and planned network changes and network deployment activities during and after business hours.
• Diagnose and restore network issues to ensure that networks, infrastructure, products and services work efficiently and reliably (BAU & Rostered) - during business hours (as part of Routines) and after hours (as part of Recall) as per business requirement.
• Effective interpersonal and influencing skills to authentically collaborate with mission or project team members and stakeholders to deliver defined work objectives.

Qualifications/Experiences
Essential
• 8+ years of experience in medium to large network integration environments in the capacity of design, and/or engineering including testing and implementation.
• Sound understanding of technology and solution lifecycle and how it is managed.
• Experience and in-depth knowledge of non-functional and functional testing capabilities.
• Experience in large scale-out infrastructures working knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments
• Knowledge of testing processes and systems together with demonstrated ability to prioritize and make appropriate judgements
• Solid understanding and experience with Cisco and Juniper routing and switching, and standard protocols like
• OSI Layers, TCP/IP protocol suite
• Network protocols (eg Ethernet, VLAN, Service OAM, DHCP, RSVP, Segment Routing, OSFP, ISIS, MPLS, RSVP, LDP, BGP, MPBGP, VPLS, VPWS, L2/L3 VPN).
• Network packet queuing (QoS, CoS, Hierarchical QoS)
• Hands-on experience on traffic generators like IXIA and Spirent
• Hands-on experience on Cisco Platforms like NCS55A2, NCS540, MRV NTUs (OSv8, OS9244), ME3400
• Expert knowledge of Network Engineering including:
• Carrier Ethernet Services (E-Line, E-Access, E-Tree, E-LAN)
• Technical knowledge of software defined networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV)
• Sound technical knowledge of Ethernet Aggregation technologies (MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0, IP, Ethernet Evolution, Wideband IP, Strategic Ethernet Platform, Regional Ethernet Aggregation Network). Highly desirable
• Understanding of Agile ways of working.
• Testing certification such as ISTQB or equivalent is desirable.
• Experience with ROBOT Framework and Python is recommended.
• Experience in NSO (Network Service Orchestration) is desirable.
• Experience in IT systems like SUPERDAM, IP-RDM, T-LIVE, CRAMER-LI, T&DM is highly desirable.
