Job Summary

The Network Engineer is an important contributor in ensuring that the Telstra network delivers a superior network experience for our consumer and business customers. You will use telecommunications network skills and experience to contribute to specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in specific network technology domains, including how this technology inter-operates with other technologies.

The core focus of this role is fibre service analysis, including monitoring fibre service, analyzing RFMS data, and presenting findings to stakeholders. This involves testing electronic device-related signals from different vendors, and resource should be good in RFMS monitoring, fibre loss, and signal down analysis.

Job Description Summary:

The Network Engineer is an important contributor in ensuring that the Telstra network delivers a superior network experience for our consumer and business customers. You will use telecommunications network skills and experience to contribute to specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in specific network technology domains, including how this technology inter-operates with other technologies.

The core focus of this role is fibre service analysis, including monitoring fibre service, analyzing RFMS data, and presenting findings to stakeholders. This involves testing electronic device-related signals from different vendors, and resource should be good in RFMS monitoring, fibre loss, and signal down analysis.

Responsibilities:
The knowledge, experience, skills, and personal attributes required for the job:

Essential:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a fibre analysis related position
  • Experience in Fibre Performance analysis - Span loss analysis against End-of-Life metrics - Analysis of Fibre performance data, Assessment of Span loss data capabilities from Active Assets (e.g. inbuilt OTDR features in DWDM), Developing visualization tools & reports, Developing reporting alerts to highlight when Span loss link deviates from historical data points
  • Deployment of fibre monitoring systems/technology - Supporting the solution development for multiple generations of fibre monitoring technology (i.e. RTU to ONMSi), Developing solutions to support expansion of fibre monitoring into new sites
  • Expertise on Network Synchronisation - Technology development support, including test environment setup, Test Object List (TOL) development and implementation for timing / synchronization. Configuration and L3/Engineering level support for timing sources. Experience with TP4100 and Network Management System TimePictra would be added advantage.
  • Experience with fibre performance reporting or automation tools coded in Python, QLIK, GRAFANA, etc)
  • Familiarity with pluggable optics (SFPs) in a multi-vendor environment, Coding requirements for Optical Transceivers (SFPs) for OEM functional compatibility / compliance. Assessment / testing of optical transceivers deployed in Transport & IP network elements.
  • Platform Management/Engineering skills

Desirable:

  • Awareness of Telstra architecture and technology implementation process
  • A working knowledge of Technology & Product Lifecycle from introduction to augmentation to exit stages and the associated business processes
  • A working knowledge of project management/Agile methodologies
