About Team
The Hardware Engineering team plays a critical role in enabling Target's $100B+ retail platform by providing essential cloud platform capabilities. We empower engineering teams across Target to provide a stable, consumable, and performant Compute and Storage foundation across all of our on-premises locations, including Stores, Supply Chain, and Data Centers. Our team is focused on delivering consistent product configuration that can be scaled to our needs through automation and lifecycle management.
Here’s the core of what we value, and the technologies we use:
- Our culture has three main pillars: care, grow, and win together, supported by our values of inclusivity, connection, and drive.
- Meeting the reliability, performance, and security commitments made to our customers is the most important part of our job.
- Our engineering teams are empowered to choose the right technology to solve the problem. Some common technologies currently in use include: Golang, Java, Docker, Kubernetes, Ceph, Kafka, GitHub, Artifactory, the elastic stack, InfluxDB, Grafana, React, the Google Cloud Platform and Azure.
- Nearly everything should have test cases and go through a continuous integration/continuous deployment process.
About the Role
As a Senior Engineering Manager leading our Chimera team, you will be accountable for leading full stack engineers to implement a platform for building and managing bare metal servers and storage hardware. You’ll cultivate a learning culture while developing a diverse, inclusive, and empowered team of engineers to solve problems which oftentimes have not been solved anywhere with open source or vendor solutions. Due to Target’s sheer size...we manage thousands of servers and storage arrays across our on-premises environments and to maintain and scale this, we need creative, innovative, and in-house built automation to tailor to our specific needs.
You’ll partner closely with our other HWE teams to deliver a core set of capabilities across the Compute and Storage HW domains. In addition, you will work closely with our key consumers to create technical and feature roadmaps that keep the customer at the center of everything we do while ensuring the technical foundation is secure, stable, performant, scalable and efficient. You will be called upon to be the technical representative for your team during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning. Success in this role will require strong and innovative approaches to problem solving, great technical leadership, excellent communication (written and verbal, formal and informal), flexibility, accountability, and a self-motivated working style with attention to detail.
