About Team
The Observability and Storage team plays a pivotal role in enabling Target's $100B+ retail platform by providing essential cloud platform capabilities. We empower engineering teams across Target to understand and improve the reliability and performance of their products. Additionally, our team delivers object store capabilities critical to our AI, MLOps, and data storage strategies.

Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to lead a team in the design, development, and delivery of robust, scalable, and high-performance web applications. In this role, you’ll leverage your expertise in backend technologies, front-end technologies, and software architecture to deliver end-to-end solutions. As a lead, you'll mentor junior developers, ensure adherence to best practices, and drive technical innovation within the team.
Key Responsibilities :
- Technical Leadership: Lead the end-to-end design and development of full-stack applications, ensuring high-quality code and adherence to best practices.
- Mentorship & Team Collaboration: Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and technical excellence.
- Full-Stack Development: Develop, test, and maintain both server-side (Java, Spring Boot) and client-side (JavaScript, React/Angular/Vue) codebases.
- Architecture & Design: Contribute to system architecture decisions, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance optimization of applications.
- Code Reviews & Best Practices: Conduct code reviews, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that the team adheres to industry-standard coding practices and methodologies.
- Agile Methodology: Work within an Agile framework, contributing to sprint planning, backlog grooming, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality features.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate and implement new technologies, tools, and frameworks to improve development processes, code quality, and application performance.
- Troubleshooting & Debugging: Resolve complex technical issues and provide solutions in a timely manner, ensuring minimal downtime or disruption to end-users.
Qualifications
Education :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Skills
- Back-End: Strong experience with Java (8+)/Go/Kotlin and RESTful API development.
- Front-End: Proficiency in modern front-end technologies such as JavaScript /React.
- Microservices : Experience with microservices architecture and associated patterns (e.g., API Gateway, Circuit Breakers).
- Databases: Solid understanding of SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL)/NoSQL (MongoDB, etc.) databases.
- Security : Understanding of security best practices (e.g., OAuth2, JWT, data encryption).
- Version Control: Expertise in using Git, including branching and merging strategies.
- Containerization & DevOps: Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Testing: Familiarity with TDD approach and unit testing frameworks
- Agile Methodology: Comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex technical problems under tight deadlines.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Ownership: A strong sense of ownership and accountability for the success of your team and projects.
Nice to Have :
- Experience with Amazon S3: Familiarity with using the S3 client in Java or other languages to interact with AWS S3 storage, including uploading, downloading, and managing objects within S3 buckets.
- Experience with Envoy Proxy /HA Proxy for load balancing, API gateway functionality, and handling microservices traffic in distributed systems.
- Cloud: Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP.
- Contributions to open-source projects or participation in tech communities (e.g., GitHub, Stack Overflow, etc.).

- Experience with UI/UX design principles or working with design systems.
