Job Description

Position Summary : 

At Syngenta, our goal is to build the most collaborative and trustworthy team in agriculture, providing top-quality seeds and innovative crop protection solutions that improve farmers' success. To support this mission, Syngenta’s Data & Analytics is seeking a Staff Engineer- AI in Pune. This role will be responsible for designing and implementing a robust, scalable, and maintainable solution em-powering our organization scale and innovate with AI. This platform will support engineering teams across Syngenta to leverage resources from hyper scalers, internal Data Science teams, as well as building core re useable services.

You will work closely with our Product Manager, Product Designer, and Engineering teams to design the platform, define best practices, and guide technical decisions ensuring the overall quality and performance of the platform

The ideal candidate will have a strong background as a Staff Engineer or as an Architect and some experience implementing and using AI (LLM or otherwise) based solutions.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead the design and architecture of the AI Innovation Platform ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with development teams to understand requirements and provide architectural guidance and support.
  • Define and promote best practices for software development utilizing AI helping to upskill our teams with new design and architectural patterns.
  • Stay up to date on latest trends and new technologies in the AI space, evaluate their potential to introduce into our ecosystem based on their potential impact.
  • Work closely with Product and Business stakeholders to understand the needs of the business and engineering teams ensuring the platform meets the needs of the users.
  • Define implementation approaches, algorithms, and code structures to meet requirements.
  • Architect experience and responsibility includes defining, prototyping and recommending the technology solutions, detailing the implementation design and identifying interfaces with other products for integration.
  • Derive architecturally significant software requirements both functional and quality attributes.
  • Technical discussions with project partners in globally distributed team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: Graduate with 10–12 years of experience in design and development, with strong Object-Oriented Programming fundamentals and excellent troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Architecture & Design Principles: Hands-on experience with design patterns, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Spec-Driven Design (SDD), microservices, serverless architectures, and containerization/orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Cloud & Database Expertise: Proficiency in AWS (preferred) for deploying and managing scalable applications, with working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, and DynamoDB.
  • DevOps & Automation: Proven ability to implement CI/CD pipelines and automation strategies for build, test, deployment, and monitoring using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or CircleCI.
  • Performance, Quality & API Standards: Strong grasp of performance optimization (profiling, caching, resource management), code quality frameworks (Jest, Mocha, Jasmine, static analysis), and RESTful/GraphQL API design with a focus on clean, maintainable code.
  • AI Awareness & Emerging Technologies: Up to date with the latest AI technologies and tools, with the ability to evaluate and recommend appropriate solutions aligned to project requirements.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Architecture Depth & Design Thinking: Strong grasp of advanced design patterns, DDD, SDD, microservices, and serverless architectures, with hands-on experience in service decomposition, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes) at scale.
  • DevOps, Quality & Performance Engineering: Experience building end-to-end CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CircleCI), implementing quality metrics (code coverage, static analysis, automated testing), and applying performance optimization techniques including profiling, caching, and resource management.
  • Cloud, Data & API Proficiency: Expertise in AWS for deploying scalable applications, with broad database experience (SQL and NoSQL) and strong command of RESTful and GraphQL APIs, backed by a benchmarking and clean-code mindset.
  • AI & Emerging Technology Fluency: Stays current with evolving AI tools and technologies, with the ability to critically evaluate and select the right stack based on project context and business need.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Confident communicator at both team and senior leadership levels, able to translate technical concepts for business audiences, manage ambiguity, set expectations clearly, and operate with integrity.
  • Adaptability & Customer-Centric Mindset: Self-motivated, curious, and creative; comfortable in fast-paced, changing environments with the ability to balance competing priorities while keeping business objectives and stakeholder needs at the center.
