Job Description
Who we are
With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system – reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.
What we need
Symbotic is seeking for an ICS Technical Program Manager, R&D to join our Industrial Controls Program Management team within our Industrial Controls organization. Your job will be to lead Industrial Controls workstreams for strategic customer NPI programs, aligning engineering, product, manufacturing, suppliers, and operations to deliver production-ready automation systems safely, on time, and within budget.
What we do
The Industrial Controls Program Management team is part of the Industrial Controls organization, which is responsible for developing, integrating, validating, and launching controls technologies that enable Symbotic’s automated systems. The team focuses on cross-functional governance across PLC and controls, electrical engineering, software and internal tools, manufacturing, and field operations to ensure Symbotic’s automated warehouse solutions remain stable, scalable, and high-performing.
What you'll do
- Lead end-to-end Industrial Controls workstream execution for strategic customer NPI programs, managing multiple concurrent projects from design through NPI readiness and launch support.
- Establish, organize, and rigorously maintain workstream budgets, scope baselines, integrated master schedules, and program plans using Microsoft Project and Jira.
- Own relationships with external controls vendors and systems integrators, including scope alignment, SOW governance, milestone tracking, deliverable verification, and executive escalations.
- Build and actively manage risk registers covering technical, vendor, manufacturing, schedule, and financial risks; drive owned mitigations to closure and escalate early when baselines are at risk.
- Coordinate across Product, Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Internal Tools Software, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Field Operations to keep each workstream tightly synchronized.
- Lead technical reviews, design reviews, gate reviews, and executive status reviews, providing clear, data-driven reporting to program leadership, executive stakeholders, and customer-facing teams.
- Support prototype builds, engineering validation, system integration, manufacturing readiness, FAT/SAT activities, pilot builds, site commissioning, engineering change control, BOM releases, and configuration management.
What you'll need
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience or equivalent work experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, including Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Systems, Software, or a related field.
- Proven experience delivering complex, multidisciplinary electro-mechanical, robotics, automation, or industrial systems through the full NPI lifecycle.
- Demonstrated success taking complex hardware and software systems from concept through design validation, prototype builds, FAT/SAT, pilot lines, and production scale-up.
- Experience owning workstream budgets, scope baselines, integrated master schedules, and active risk registers, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project, Jira, Confluence, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong experience managing external vendors, suppliers, and systems integrators, including SOWs, milestones, performance tracking, deliverable verification, and escalations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional engineering teams and resource managers without direct authority, supported by strong analytical, problem-solving, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with Rockwell Automation and Studio 5000, Beckhoff, Siemens, industrial safety systems, or warehouse automation is preferred.
Our Environment
- Up to 30% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client locations and company HQ.
- Employees may be required to use a personal credit card for business travel expenses, which are reimbursed based on the program guidelines. Eligible employees may receive a corporate credit card based on role and travel requirements, but a personal credit card may be needed during onboarding until the corporate card is issued.
