QC Mechanical Engineer– Data Center Construction
Location: United States
SWJ Technology specializes in providing engineering, planning, and project management services across various industries. We are currently seeking QC Mechanical Engineer– Data Center Construction for a client in the commercial and industrial construction industry. This is a Contractor or direct hire. The QC Mechanical Engineer – Data Center Construction ensures quality, compliance, and performance of mechanical systems on data center construction projects. The role focuses on inspection, verification, and documentation of mission-critical mechanical installations to meet design intent, specifications, and reliability requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement and manage mechanical quality control activities for data center construction projects
- Inspect installation of mechanical systems, including:
- HVAC systems (CRAC/CRAH units, AHUs, DX and chilled water systems)
- Chilled water plants, pumps, piping, valves, and heat exchangers
- Cooling distribution systems (raised floor, overhead, in-row, liquid cooling)
- Plumbing, drainage, and water treatment systems
- Fire protection systems (sprinkler, pre-action, clean agent interfaces)
- Verify compliance with construction drawings, specifications, method statements, and inspection & test plans (ITPs)
- Review and approve mechanical submittals, shop drawings, and as-built documentation
- Witness factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), pressure tests, flushing, and commissioning activities
- Identify non-conformances (NCRs), track corrective actions, and verify closure
- Coordinate with construction, commissioning, and design teams to resolve quality and installation issues
- Support commissioning readiness, integrated systems testing (IST), and turnover documentation
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, local building codes)
- Maintain quality records, inspection reports, test results, and handover documentation
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical QC or construction engineering, with a strong focus on data centers or mission-critical facilities
- Proven experience inspecting HVAC and cooling systems for high-density environments
- Strong knowledge of QA/QC procedures, construction practices, and industry standards
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and schedules
- Experience working with EPC contractors, subcontractors, and commissioning agents
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Proactive and solution-oriented mindset
- Ability to work effectively on active construction sites
- Strong communication and coordination skills
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent
- Experience with commissioning and integrated systems testing (IST)
- Familiarity with BIM / Revit and mechanical documentation systems
- Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center projects
- Quality or inspection certifications (e.g., ISO 9001, CQI, or equivalent)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.

- Location: Confidential, Southern America
- Schedule: Flexible working hours. Willingness to travel or work on-site as required
