Electrical Engineer – Data Center Construction

Location: United States

SWJ Technology specializes in providing engineering, planning, and project management services across various industries. We are currently seeking Electrical Engineer – Data Center Construction- for a client in the commercial and industrial construction industry. This is a Contractor or direct hire. PURPOSE: 
The Electrical Engineer - Data Center Construction - supports the design, construction, and commissioning of mission-critical data center facilities. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with high-reliability electrical infrastructure and understands the demands of large-scale, high-availability data center environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design, review, and oversee installation of electrical systems for data center facilities, including:
    • Medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems
    • UPS systems, battery energy storage, and backup power systems
    • Generators, fuel systems, and transfer switches (ATS/STS)
    • Power distribution units (PDUs), remote power panels (RPPs), and busway systems
    • Lighting, grounding, and lightning protection systems
  • Coordinate electrical design with mechanical, architectural, structural, and IT teams
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and vendor submittals for compliance with design intent and codes
  • Support site activities including inspections, QA/QC, and contractor coordination
  • Support commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), and final system turnover
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, local AHJ requirements)
  • Participate in risk assessments, reliability studies, and value engineering exercises
  • Support electrical system troubleshooting during construction and early operation phases
  • Ensure electrical designs meet redundancy and availability requirements (N, N+1, 2N)

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in building construction, with a strong focus on data centers or mission-critical facilities
  • Proven experience with critical power infrastructure and redundancy concepts
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and safety practices
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, one-line diagrams, and technical specifications
  • Experience coordinating with utility providers and AHJs
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, schedule-driven construction environments
  • High attention to detail and focus on reliability and safety
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure
  • Experience with commissioning and integrated systems testing
  • Familiarity with BIM / Revit, SKM, ETAP, or similar electrical modeling tools
  • Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center projects
  • Knowledge of arc-flash analysis and short-circuit studies

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.

  • Location: Confidential, Southern America
  • Schedule: Flexible working hours required/ Willingness to travel to project sites as required
  • Overtime: As required
  • Assignment Start: ASAP
