Platform Engineering Manager (Foundational Services)
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineering Manager to lead our Foundational Services team within the SUSE IT Platform Engineering organization. This team is responsible for managing datacenters across the globe, ensuring the reliable operation of essential infrastructure such as hardware hosting, storage, compute capacity, and network connectivity. The Foundational Services team also provides system monitoring and capacity planning capabilities that enable efficient and cost-effective infrastructure deployments.
Focus Areas
Leadership & Team Development:
Lead and manage a team of highly skilled engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence.
Provide mentorship, career development, and performance management.
Global Datacenter Management:
Own and manage datacenter operations worldwide, ensuring high availability and performance.
Maintain hardware, network infrastructure, and on-premises compute/storage resources.
System Monitoring & Capacity Planning:
Develop and maintain comprehensive system monitoring capabilities.
Drive data-driven decision-making through proactive capacity planning, ensuring cost-effective and scalable infrastructure.
Strategic Planning & Execution:
Establish and execute a roadmap for foundational services aligned with business goals.
Collaborate with IT teams and business units to support service expansion and platform evolution.
Operational Excellence & Service Automation:
Lead efforts in operational automation, minimizing manual tasks through infrastructure management best practices.
Ensure incident management processes and continuous improvement for foundational services.
Required experience & skills
Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 10 years of IT experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
Proven expertise in managing large-scale, global datacenter operations.
Strong knowledge of hardware hosting, networking, and storage solutions.
Experience with system monitoring tools and capacity planning methodologies.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive technology transformations.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
