Derin is a behavioral science-backed, AI-powered adaptive research platform built for healthcare that conducts in-depth interviews to reveal the unseen “why” behind health decisions—with the depth and rigor of expert-led research, at unprecedented scale and speed. It holds natural, adaptive conversations with people at scale and turns what they say into behavioral insight our customers can act on. Derin v1 is live and working. Now we want to build a v2 that clients love to use.

We are hiring our Product Designer to own the Derin client interface end to end. Our clients are researchers, program leads, and decision-makers in life sciences, health systems, public agencies, and foundations. They come to Derin to design studies, launch interviews, monitor fieldwork, and make sense of thousands of conversations. Your job is to make that experience intuitive, fast, and trustworthy.

The heart of this role is turning complex data into clarity. Derin produces rich, layered output: transcripts, themes, behavioral segments, quantitative results, and AI-generated summaries.

You will design the visuals and workflows that let a busy client see what matters in seconds and dig deeper with confidence.

You will work closely with product, engineering, data science, and behavioral science, and you will talk directly with clients. This is a hands-on role. You will set the design direction for v2, and you will also build the prototypes and ship the pixels. You will lay the foundation for design at Surgo, with room to grow the function as Derin scales.

Derin v2 client experience

● Lead the end-to-end design of the Derin v2 client interface, with special attention to the client analytics platform.
● Set the product's design vision and turn it into flows, wireframes, high-fidelity designs, and interactive prototypes.
● Partner with product and engineering to scope, sequence, and ship v2 in iterative releases.

Data visualization and insight design

● Design dashboards, charts, and reporting views that distill thousands of AI-led conversations into clear, decision-ready insight.
● Create intuitive ways to explore layered data: themes, behavioral segments, quotes, quantitative results, and drill-downs to the source transcript.
● Create visual cues that make AI-generated output understandable and trustworthy, including how we show confidence, evidence, and the link between a finding and what people said.
● Work with data science and behavioral science to make sure every visual is accurate, not just attractive.

Design systems and standards

● Build and maintain a scalable design system and component library for Derin, including patterns for data visualization.
● Champion accessibility, consistency, and quality across the product.
● Bring design thinking to the wider team and help shape how Surgo presents data across products, sales materials, and client deliverables.

● 5+ years designing complex B2B or SaaS products, with a portfolio that shows shipped work and the thinking behind it. Health tech, research tools, analytics, or AI product experience is strongly preferred.
● Strong data visualization skills. You know when a chart helps and when it hurts, and you have designed dashboards or reporting tools that people actually rely on.
● Experience taking a v1 product to a v2 that users love, ideally including a significant redesign.
● Rigorous about accuracy. You notice when a visual overstates a finding, and you push back on anything that could mislead.
● Fluent in Figma and modern prototyping tools, with a solid understanding of how designs get built and how to work well with engineers.
● Experience designing for AI products, including how to present generated content, uncertainty, and evidence in ways users trust.
● Excellent communicator who can explain design decisions to clients, engineers, scientists, and executives.
● Comfortable working iteratively with subject-matter experts in research, data science, and behavioral science.
● Thrives in a fast-moving, mission-driven startup and is happy to be both strategist and hands-on designer.

Location: Istanbul, Turkey. You will work closely with our team in Washington, DC and the UK with regular overlap with US Eastern Time working hours.

Travel: Occasional travel, including to our Washington, DC office.

Language: Professional fluency in English is required; you will work directly with US-based colleagues and clients.
