Syncrude's Mechanical Engineering team is looking for a Static Equipment Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in maintaining and improving the safety, reliability, and performance of our critical static equipment assets. Minimum Requirements:

  • Five or more years of experience in the Mechanical engineering field with hands on experience

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), or ability to obtain P.Eng. registration through APEGA within a reasonable timeframe
  • Excellent collaboration with proven ability to interface with multiple disciplines, departments and tradespeople

  • Exceptional communication on Engineering designs and procedures to operations and maintenance personnel

  • Strong knowledge in pressure equipment design and maintenance, and knowledge of commonly used design and fabrication codes and post construction specifications (ASME, TEMA, SME, PCC, API)

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical engineering work relating to static equipment repair and alteration, as well as support for failure investigations and equipment strategy development

  • Oversee piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, furnaces, tanks, and boilers to enable business units to operate safely and reliably

  • Preparation of high-quality engineering packages/PWPs for use by the maintenance and execution teams including repair packages, upgrade packages with management of change (MOC), risk assessment / peer review and purchase specifications for new and replacement pressure equipment

  • Take part in API 579 fitness for service (FFS) evaluations (Level 1 and 2) and provide input and review for level 3 FFS reports

  • Collaborate with other disciplines and departments including inspectors, Materials Engineering, Process Technical Engineering and others

  • Work closely with the Operations and Maintenance personnel in the upgrader to resolve threats to unit health and ensure Engineering solutions are executable and fit-for-purpose

Location and other Key details:

  • This is a base position at our Syncrude Mildred Lake Site based in Fort McMurray

  • Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day

  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
