DevOps and Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Raleigh, NC

Sunbird (www.sunbirddcim.com), an established leader in Data Center Infrastructure Management, is looking for a DevOps and Infrastructure Engineer to join our engineering team. Our award-winning web-based solutions help our customers understand and manage energy consumption, environmental conditions and assets in their facilities.

As a DevOps and Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and evolving our development and test infrastructure. You will work closely with software engineering teams to improve automation, reliability, security, scalability, and deployment efficiency across both on-premises and cloud environments. 

This role is ideal for a technically curious engineer who enjoys Linux administration, automation, CI/CD, cloud technologies, container platforms, and solving complex operational challenges. 

Technologies include Linux, Python, Bash, Perl, Jenkins, GitHub, Kubernetes, OpenShift, VMware, Azure, AWS, and related infrastructure technologies. 
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain, monitor, and continuously improve on-premises infrastructure. This includes compute, storage, networking, virtualization, and container platforms.

• Manage backup and disaster recovery processes for critical systems and applications, including local and offsite backups. 

• Apply operating system, hypervisor, firmware, and application patches to ensure systems remain secure and up to date. 

• Design, maintain, and enhance CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation processes to improve delivery speed, quality, and reliability.

• Deploy and maintain virtual machines and infrastructure across VMware, Linux KVM, Microsoft Azure, and AWS environments. 

• Support identity and access management systems, including SAML, LDAP, and Active Directory integrations. 

• Support network and systems administration tasks, including DNS, VPN, firewall coordination, SSL certificate management, and secure remote access. 

• Evaluate and recommend infrastructure improvements, tooling enhancements, and operational best practices to improve reliability, scalability, and efficiency. 

• Automate routine operational and deployment tasks using scripting and infrastructure management tools. 

• Collaborate with software engineering teams to improve application deployment processes, operational readiness, observability, and platform reliability. 

• Create and maintain technical documentation for infrastructure, deployment procedures, operational standards, and recovery processes. 

• Maintain Perl, Ruby and Shell scripts that allow customers to easily deploy and configure our solution, run backups\restores, provide high availability, and perform other administrative tasks 

• Some after-hours or on-call support for critical systems is required (not frequent) 

• Must use only company-approved AI tools and follow documented company AI usage policy 

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS 
 

A candidate with any of the following will be at an advantage: 

• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting experience 

• Experience with Shell, Ruby, Perl or Python scripts that allow users to easily configure servers and perform other administrative tasks 

• Knowledge / experience with containerization (Docker / Kubernetes / OpenShift) 

• Experience with system administration and networking (TCP/IP, DNS, Routing, Etc..) 

• Experience using AI-assisted tools to improve productivity and operational effectiveness 

• Ability to manage Cisco firewalls and configure/maintain VPNs 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
