Junior Software Engineer

Within the Global Operations organization, our mission is to build the best customer experience in the fintech industry by providing an effortless experience to all our merchants. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Machine Learning Engineer to join our talented AI Team. In this role, you will help develop and optimize AI models and systems that will revolutionize how SumUp supports its customers. 

This is an excellent opportunity for someone just starting their career who has a passion for AI and technology. You will work alongside experienced engineers, data scientists, and product managers, gaining valuable hands-on experience while contributing to real-world projects. Your work will play a key role in creating innovative AI solutions that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our customer support processes. You will also have the opportunity to learn and grow in a collaborative environment, working with cutting-edge technologies and best practices in AI development and deployment.

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, and deploy AI solutions and systems in production environments, ensuring reliability, high performance, and scalability.
• Develop and maintain AI infrastructure and pipelines to support efficient data processing, model training, and serving.
• Implement monitoring, observability, and alerting strategies to track model performance, data drift, and system health in production environments.
• Optimize, troubleshoot, and fine-tune machine learning models to improve accuracy and efficiency, ensuring optimal performance.
• Adhere to software development best practices, including version control, CI/CD, unit testing, and code reviews, to ensure maintainable and reliable AI solutions.
• Leverage prompt engineering to enhance AI workflows, improve data security, and enable API-driven actions that benefit our merchants.
• Learn about new technologies and how to apply them at SumUp.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, and product managers, to integrate AI solutions into customer-facing product

You’ll be great for this position if you have:

• A degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in common frameworks such as FastAPI, Pydantic, and LangChain.
• Experience with API development, management, and security.
• Creativity and curiosity in applying the latest algorithms from data science to optimize our products.
• Experience working with LLMs, including prompt engineering and building LLM-based software.
• Knowledge of software development principles, including version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and agile methodologies.
• Interest in distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and cloud platforms (AWS), as well as hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and RDBMS (PostgreSQL).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in verbal and written English communication.
