Data Engineer (m/f/d)

Department: Data

Location: Hamburg or Berlin

Employment Type: FullTime

At Statista, we’re all about facts and data, for we are the world's leading business data platform. By providing reliable and easy-to-use data as well as various data analytics products and services, we empower people worldwide to make fact-based decisions.

Founded in Hamburg in 2007, we have quickly grown into a global company with offices in major cities such as London, New York, Berlin and Tokyo. And we still have a lot of plans. Our constant growth does not only prove our success, but also keeps creating new development and career opportunities for our employees.

You’ll join our Survey and Modeled Data Tools team, part of Data Engineering within Data Production. We build the tools and platforms behind some of Statista’s core data workflows, helping analysts and researchers turn complex processes into scalable, reliable, and reusable solutions.

Our work ranges from developing a shared platform for building and updating modeled market data, used by analysts across markets and industries, to creating tools and data infrastructure that support our global survey workflows. We work closely with analysts, researchers, and other engineering teams, putting our team right at the intersection of data engineering, software development, and real business use cases.

You’ll work on a mix of data engineering, backend services, workflow automation, and AI-powered tooling. This means improving systems that are already used in production while also helping us design the next generation of our platform infrastructure. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of technical solutions from idea to production and help us make complex data workflows more automated, scalable, and maintainable.

We value and celebrate our diverse culture. You are welcome here for who you are, no matter where you come from, what you look like, or whether you prefer bar graphs to pie charts. Your story matters – keep writing it as part of our team.

Are you ready to join us?

  • Contribute to platform architecture, operational reliability, and the continuous automation and optimization of analytical workflows.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate evolving business and analyst/researcher requirements into practical technical solutions.

Your Profile

  • Strong Python skills with experience in backend systems, data pipelines, workflow automation, or internal tooling

  • Hands-on experience developing AI-powered applications using LLMs, AI agents, and modern AI APIs.

  • Solid understanding of SQL, databases, and data modeling concepts

  • Experience with Git and writing clean, maintainable, and well-structured code

  • Familiarity with workflow orchestration and general data engineering concepts

  • Understanding of containerization and cloud environments, such as Docker or AWS, is a plus
