Job Description

Who we are looking for

At State Street Investment Management (SSIM), we are building the next generation of platforms that power one of the world’s largest asset managers.

We are looking for an Application Development Lead to play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the technology that underpins our Global Funds Management business — a core engine of our investment ecosystem.

This is not a traditional “lead role.” It is a hands-on, high-impact leadership position where you will architect solutions, influence engineering direction, and directly contribute to building modern, scalable platforms at enterprise scale.

This role is ideal for a senior engineer ready to expand their impact — someone who wants to shape systems, influence direction, and operate as a trusted technical leader within a globally significant platform, and is ready to:

  • Own meaningful engineering outcomes: work on business-critical platforms that directly support global investment operations

  • Shape architecture and direction: influence how systems are designed, built, and evolved

  • Operate at senior level: partner closely with experienced engineers, architects, and business leaders across regions

  • Blend leadership with hands-on delivery: lead by doing, not just directing

  • Be part of modernization: drive DevOps, cloud adoption, and emerging capabilities such as AI-enabled engineering

Eligible employees may benefit from the Copyrights Tax Deduction Program, which allows qualifying creative work, such as software development, to be treated under preferential tax-deductible cost rules in line with Polish tax regulations and internal company policy.

Your new role

You will sit at the heart of engineering delivery, combining technical depth with leadership influence:

  • Design and build robust, scalable applications supporting Global Funds Management

  • Act as a technical anchor within a highly capable engineering team

  • Drive end-to-end solution delivery — from architecture through to production

  • Lead the adoption of modern engineering practices (CI/CD, automation, DevOps)

  • Partner with global stakeholders across Technology and the business to solve complex problems

  • Champion engineering excellence, quality, and continuous improvement

  • Mentor and elevate engineers, creating a high-performance, learning-oriented team

What we value

We are interested in strong engineers who want to step into broader technical leadership and operate at scale.

You’ll likely bring:

  • Deep experience building distributed, enterprise-grade applications (Java and/or Python environments)

  • Strong understanding of modern architecture principles (microservices, APIs, cloud-native design)

  • Experience working in cloud-based environments (AWS preferred)

  • Confidence working across the full lifecycle — design, build, deploy, and operate

  • A track record of owning delivery in complex, cross-functional environments

  • The ability to influence stakeholders and lead through expertise, not hierarchy

  • Prior exposure to financial services is helpful, but not essential — curiosity and learning agility matter more.

You’ll join a globally distributed, high-caliber engineering team that values:

  • Pragmatic, high-quality engineering

  • Clear ownership and accountability

  • Continuous learning and innovation

  • Collaboration across regions and disciplines

Additional requirements

  • Krakow-based role; Hybrid model (min. 3 days per week in the office)

Minimum Salary:

zł282 000 Annual

The minimum salary quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate ultimately works outside of this primary location, the applicable minimum salary may differ.

Salary will be determined based on factors such as the position, type of work performed, individual skills, job description, working hours, diligence, initiative, self-management, length of employment, availability, and the quantity and quality of work delivered, as well as other objective and non-discriminatory criteria relevant to State Street employees.

In addition to salary, employees are eligible to be considered for discretionary annual performance-based awards.

We Offer:

  • Permanent contract from day one

  • Additional holidays (Birthday Day Off, 3rd and 5th year anniversary Day Off)

  • Gold Medical Package for employees and their families (partner and children)

  • Premium life insurance package and private pension plan

  • Wide range of soft skills training, technical workshops, language classes and development programs

  • Opportunities to volunteer your time to company-driven initiatives, employee networks or organizations of your choice

  • Variety of well-being programs

  • Additional benefits available depending on the seniority of the role
