Product Manager, Checkout

Department: Product

Location: Remote

Employment Type: FullTime

About Stash

Stash is the direct-to-consumer commerce platform for game studios. We build the webshops, checkout experiences, and merchant-of-record infrastructure that let games sell directly to players — cutting the 30% app store tax and increasing LTV. Leading game studios run their direct-to-player commerce on Stash, and we already process hundreds of millions of dollars a year in D2C revenue. We're scaling fast toward a 5x volume target in 2026, and we're building out the product team to match.

About the role

As our first dedicated Checkout PM, you'll own Stash Pay checkout end to end: checkout UX, conversion from "buy" tap through completed purchase, and the partner integration experience (SDK/checkout entry points, setup time, documentation quality). Our bar is the best in class — think Stripe's Optimized Checkout Suite or Shopify's Shop Pay. Checkout conversion rate and integration time are the north star metrics of this role.

This role is explicitly scoped to the checkout experience, not the payments stack — approval-rate optimization, retry/recovery logic, fraud-vs-conversion tradeoffs, PSP routing, and tax/MoR handling stay with our payments team. You'll work closely with payments where checkout hands off to it, but you won't own those mechanics.

This is a high-agency, build-it-from-scratch role. There's no existing playbook — you'll create one.

Leveling

We're open to candidates across multiple experience levels. The final title and scope of the role will be determined based on your experience, strengths, and the level of ownership you're ready to take on.

Location

This is a remote role open to candidates based in the United States or Canada, or in Europe with overlapping US working hours.

What you'll do

  • Instrument and own checkout conversion rate and abandonment rate as core KPIs, with a plan to close the gap against industry-best checkout UX benchmarks

  • Fully transition checkout UX ownership from the payments team to product

  • Ship a streamlined, low-friction checkout flow — saved-info/returning-player checkout, fewer steps and fields, clearer cost transparency — modeled on best-in-class accelerated checkouts

  • Cut integration setup time for new partners adopting Stash Pay checkout through better docs, AI-assisted setup, and automated tooling, eliminating one-off bespoke builds

  • Make Stash Pay checkout close to self-serve: the goal is zero support calls for standard implementations

  • Own and maintain the Stash Pay checkout roadmap, with effort estimates and impact sizing, running sprint planning for the checkout eng team

  • In your first 90 days: get familiar enough with the checkout UX and integration architecture to engage engineers on trade-offs, establish baseline checkout metrics and identify the top friction points, take over sprint planning for the checkout eng team, and ship one meaningful, metrics-backed improvement to checkout conversion or integration time

What we're looking for

  • Checkout UX and conversion fluency — you understand where and why players (or users) drop off in a checkout flow, and how UX changes move conversion

  • Data and experimentation rigor — you instrument funnels, run A/B tests, and let data drive prioritization over opinion

  • Design taste for high-stakes conversion surfaces — you obsess over checkout quality the way top checkout PMs at Stripe or Shopify do, because small changes move revenue

  • A generalization instinct — you turn partner-specific integration asks into reusable product features

  • An MVP, incremental-build mindset — you scope down, ship iteratively, and push back on scope creep

  • High agency and ownership; you're comfortable building structure where none exists

  • Clear communication — specs, roadmaps, and updates that land with engineering, sales, and leadership

Requirements

  • Background at a tech/SaaS with direct, hands-on ownership of a checkout or transactional-conversion UX surface

  • Direct, hands-on experience collaborating with engineering teams

  • Comfortable working West Coast hours given where our product and partner strategy is concentrated

Why Stash?

  • Work on products used by some of the world's leading game studios

  • Own a core product area with significant autonomy and impact

  • Help shape the future of direct-to-consumer commerce in gaming

  • Join a lean, ambitious, and highly collaborative team building products at scale
