Electrical Lighting Engineer
Location: Pune, Maharashtra, India
Technical Skills
• Lighting calculation: AGi32, DIALux Evo, Relux — advanced proficiency required.
• CAD & BIM: AutoCAD (advanced), Revit MEP (lighting families), SketchUp for quick visualizations.
• Visualization: Relux, Dialux rendering, or basic working knowledge of Enscape / Lumion for design communication.
• Controls: DALI-2, DMX/RDM, KNX, Casambi, Helvar, Lutron, Crestron lighting control systems.
• MS Office (Excel luminaire schedules, PowerPoint client presentations); Adobe Creative Suite advantageous.
Core Competencies
• The position requires a balanced combination of technical design capability and professional competencies. Responsibilities include delivery of core design activities such as photometric design and analysis, lighting controls and BMS integration, façade and landscape lighting, energy efficient and sustainable design solutions, and luminaire specification. The role also requires effective client engagement, clear communication and presentation of design intent, coordination with other disciplines, management of programs and deliverables, and contribution to team development, mentoring
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Architectural & Interior Lighting
• Develop and lead lighting design concepts from early schematic stage through to construction documentation and site completion.
• Prepare detailed photometric calculations, lighting layouts, luminaire schedules, dimming control schematics, and specifications using AGi32, DIALux Evo, or Relux.
• Design DALI-2, DMX/RDM, Casambi, and KNX lighting control systems integrated with BMS and smart building platforms.
• Select and specify architectural luminaires, custom fittings, and decorative light art pieces in close collaboration with interior designers and architects.
• Prepare lighting mood boards, rendered visualisations, and design narratives for client presentations and design development approvals.
• Coordinate with structural, MEP, and joinery contractors on recessed, integrated, and concealed lighting details.
Landscape & Exterior Lighting
• Design exterior lighting schemes for public realms, podium landscapes, water features, hardscape, softscape, and building façades.
• Develop façade lighting strategies including architectural wash lighting, gobo projection, dynamic color schemes, and media façade integration.
• Coordinate with civil, landscape, and irrigation teams on underground cable routes, IP-rated fixture details, and maintenance access.
• Specify and design sports lighting layouts for multi-purpose outdoor courts, playing fields, and recreation facilities.
• Ensure all outdoor lighting complies with light pollution, sky glow, and obtrusive light guidelines as applicable.
Standards, Compliance & Sustainability
• Ensure designs comply with CIBSE SLL Lighting Guides, IES Recommended Practices, ASHRAE 90.1 lighting power density limits, and local authority requirements (DCD, DDA, QCD, etc.).
• Integrate daylighting strategies (daylight harvesting, occupancy controls, circadian lighting) to support LEED, Estidama, and WELL certification targets.
• Calculate lighting energy use intensity (LUI) and produce IDA/IESNA compliant obtrusive lighting reports where required.
Client & Project Delivery
▪ Act as the primary lighting consultant point of contact for clients, architects, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
▪ Manage lighting design deliverables to program and budget, coordinating with multi-discipline project teams.
▪ Support business development through technical proposals, client presentations, and attendance at project interviews.
▪ Mentor junior lighting designers and contribute to practice quality standards and luminaire library development.
