People who care about making things better For Those Who Make The World™. Stanley Black & Decker is a global leader in tools, outdoor, and industrial solutions, with iconic brands including DEWALT®, STANLEY, CRAFTSMAN, and BLACK+DECKER®.

The Role

Stanley Black & Decker is seeking an Engineering Director to lead the Mexico Design Center and serve as a key engineering leader supporting new product introduction, localization, value engineering, reliability, testing, and cross-functional execution for the Tools & Outdoor business. This leader will oversee engineering resources across three sites in Mexico and a fourth site in Texas, USA. The Director will be accountable for building an integrated multi-site engineering organization that supports both new product launches and the in-market health of the installed product portfolio. This role will partner closely with global design centers, operations, sourcing, quality, supply chain, and category teams to accelerate innovation, improve delivery performance, strengthen product quality, and drive cost and warranty improvement. The role requires a strong blend of technical depth, organizational leadership, and operational discipline.

This position is based in Monterrey, Mexico.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Lead the Mexico Design Center engineering organization across multiple sites, including direct leadership of Product Lifecycle Engineering (PLE) leaders and their teams.
  • Build vision, strategy, and action plan to expand design center to drive innovation and new product development.
  • Create a cohesive operating model across NPI, sustaining engineering, reliability, testing, and value engineering to ensure alignment of priorities, resources, and execution.
  • Drive new product introduction (NPI), localization, and lifecycle engineering initiatives in partnership with global engineering, category, and operations teams.
  • Provide leadership oversight for teams responsible for maintaining existing products, resolving field and factory quality issues, and improving the long-term health of the portfolio.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet requirements for quality, cost, timing, reliability, safety, and manufacturability.
  • Oversee engineering support for builds, launch readiness, production ramp-up, and ongoing manufacturing stability across supported sites.
  • Champion value improvement initiatives that reduce product cost, improve margins, and lower warranty claims through engineering-led problem solving.
  • Strengthen reliability and testing capabilities, ensuring teams understand failure modes, validation methods, and corrective action processes.
  • Partner with supply chain and sourcing teams to evaluate supplier changes, component improvements, and design modifications that improve quality, continuity, and cost performance.
  • Establish governance, metrics, and review mechanisms to track engineering performance, portfolio health, execution risk, and organizational capability.
  • Develop and retain top engineering talent, including succession planning and capability building for PLE leaders and broader site engineering teams.
  • Serve as a key liaison between the Mexico Design Center and global stakeholders across engineering, product management, sourcing, quality, and manufacturing.

Professional Experience / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; mechanical, electrical, or related discipline preferred. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • 15+ years of engineering and product development experience, including significant leadership responsibility in electromechanical or power tool environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading managers and multi-site engineering organizations.
  • Strong background in new product introduction, sustaining/product lifecycle engineering, and cross-functional program execution.
  • Solid understanding of design-for-manufacture, cost engineering, reliability, testing, and product lifecycle processes.
  • Experience supporting factory operations, launch readiness, and resolution of field or production quality issues.
  • Proven ability to lead in a fast-paced, matrixed, global environment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required. Portuguese preferred.

Leadership Profile

  • Hands-on leader with strong technical, people, and operational judgment.
  • Able to lead through leaders, creating clarity, accountability, and alignment across multiple sites and teams.
  • Skilled at balancing strategic priorities with day-to-day execution needs in launch and sustaining environments.
  • Effective communicator across local and global teams, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Promotes ownership, transparency, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Committed to talent development and building a strong, high-performing engineering culture.
