Software Engineer, Cloud Compute Platform

The Cloud Compute Platform team is part of the Platform Infrastructure Engineering and Reliability group, and is responsible for designing and managing how Stack AV runs workloads at scale.  From long-running services, to large-scale batch workloads, the team is tasked with building a highly-available and scalable compute infrastructure to power our critical services and pipelines. Members of the team are expected to have a strong focus on requirements gathering and design process to ensure our platform meets the needs of the business and our internal customers.

What Success Looks Like:

• Platform engineering focus, with experience supporting both long-running services as well as batch workloads. Experience delivering Kubernetes platform features such as ingress, DNS, certificate management, secrets injection, RBAC, persistent volumes, etc. 
• Expert level understanding of Kubernetes concepts, with an ability to distill concepts and provide training to customers across the company.
• Experience building and running Kubernetes clusters both within hyperscalers, as well as on-premises. Experience with hosted Kubernetes solutions (such as EKS, GKE, or AKS) in addition to building clusters from scratch using tools such as kubeadm.
• Fluent in Go, with past experience writing and maintaining Kubernetes controllers. Knowledgeable about level and edge driven design patterns, and ability to articulate tradeoffs between the approaches.
• Strong focus on requirements gathering and overall design process. Experience architecting and optimizing large-scale systems to facilitate machine learning, simulation, and data processing exercises. 
• Experience running and supporting workflow orchestration systems such as Argo Workflows or Airflow.
• Strong focus on providing production-grade service to internal engineering teams through observability, instrumentation, and well-defined SLOs.
• Experience working in a diverse and distributed team, with a focus on communication and customer empathy. Desire to work cross-functionally within Stack to meet customer use cases and deliver business value.
