Job Description:

The Study Manager / Senior Project Engineer will lead studies support the development and execution of studies required to advance opportunities through the Growth and Innovation Group's Project Pipeline. Reporting to the Study Director, the Study Manager / Project Engineer will coordinate and manage technical workstreams associated with mining, processing, infrastructure, and capital project studies from scoping through pre-feasibility and feasibility stages and prepare for execution.

The Study Manager / Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities, managing technical consultants, and ensuring study deliverables are completed in accordance with Company standards, schedules, budgets, and quality expectations. The role will work closely with Exploration, Technical Services, Operations, Projects, Environment, Permitting, and Finance teams to support study development and investment decision-making.

This position will assist in evaluating technical alternatives, project risks, execution strategies, and capital and operating cost assumptions. The Project Engineer will help develop study technical reports (such as PFS and FS reports) , technical presentations, economic evaluations, and business cases required to advance projects through the Company's investment pipeline.

The Day-to-Day:

  • Lead multidisciplinary studies from Initial Assessment (IA) through to Feasibility Study stage following SSR’s Investment standards 

  • Develop scopes, and manage the engagement of specialist consultant organizations and ensure their delivery is timely, to budget and of appropriate quality.

  • Source and manage internal and external cross functional technical resources to support the completion of IA, Pre-feasibility and Feasibility Studies.

  • Document and present the results of IA, Concept, Pre-feasibility and Feasibility Studies.

  • Work with site teams to develop site and project specific economic filters for exploration targets.

  • Analyze site business plans and support the strategic business planning process. 

  • Develop and maintain study schedules, work plans, budgets, and resource plans.

  • Monitor study progress and identify risks, constraints, and opportunities.

  • Review technical deliverables for quality, completeness, and consistency with study objectives.

  • Assist in the preparation of project execution strategies and development plans.

  • Support development of CAPEX and OPEX estimates and associated assumptions.

  • Lead technical trade-off studies and option evaluations.

  • Contribute to the development of technical reports, investment memoranda, and executive presentations.

  • Develop and maintain risk registers for later stage studies, such as Feasibility Studies.

  • Maintains a strong understanding of emerging mining technologies and industry innovations, evaluating their technical, economic, and operational applicability for incorporation into project studies to improve safety, productivity, sustainability, and project value.

  • Coordinate with Environmental, Permitting, and Community Relations teams regarding project requirements.

  • Promote safe, sustainable, and responsible project development practices.

  • Works independently on complex assignments requiring sound engineering judgment.

  • Regularly interacts with internal and external stakeholders to achieve study objectives.

  • Provide guidance to technical team and mentorship to junior staff.

  • Supports budget development and cost tracking activities for assigned studies.

Is This You?

  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or PE) designation or ability to obtain registration is preferred.

  • Minimum 12 8 years of engineering and project development experience in mining, minerals processing, or heavy industrial projects.

  • Experience supporting studies through Initial Assessment, Concept, and Pre-feasibility and Feasibility stages.

  • Engineering or operational Process Plant and Tailings Management experience is an advantage.

  • Advanced understanding of scheduling tools, cost estimating software is an asset.

  • Master's degree or MBA is an asset.

  • Demonstrated understanding of project management principles and stage-gate project development processes.

  • Working knowledge of exploration, mine planning, mineral processing, infrastructure development, and project execution strategies.

  • Study experience working with EPCM firms and/or engineering professional services consultants is an advantage.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and technical writing abilities.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safe and sustainable work practices.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

  • Ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines, cultures, and geographic regions.

For applicants residing in CO, the salary range for this role is from $135,000-$150,000. Benefits: 401(k); medical/dental/vision insurance; employee share purchase plan, PTO, and STI.
