Backend Engineer II (Rates Squad)

SpotHero is seeking a Backend Engineer to be part of the team working on our flagship consumer products. This team owns building out new features and products that allow our vendors to price parking spots competitively. You will gain exposure to SpotHero’s pricing products and services which drive our product forward.

What will you do:

• Collaborate with product designers, backend engineers and data scientists to iterate on experiments and product features that immediately impact our customers
• Use technologies and tools like Python/Django/Jinja, Golang, Kafka, Terraform, Postgres, and Airflow to build out new backend features and maintain/improve existing ones
• Build a variety of APIs
• Participate in design and code reviews
• Evolve our backend library, standards and best practices to streamline development and ensure consistency across products
• Write relevant and clearly understood tests
• Write clear documentation for areas of complexity
• Ensure there is observability into your work for both Engineering and Product
• Create automated tests

 

The following experience is relevant to us:

• You have 2+ years working in a cloud environment, ideally AWS
• You have 2+ years of hands-on experience with Backend development using Python/Django/Jinja and Golang
• You have 2+ years of experience building and documenting APIs
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerization technologies
• Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure as code technologies
• We value humility, a strong work ethic, flexibility, collaboration, technical curiosity, and constant learning
• Experience with small teams that move fast

 

Nice to haves:

• Exposure to UI development
• Knowledge of a data query and manipulation language (ideally SQL)
