Role Summary

We are seeking a Software Engineer to help design, develop and deliver Splunk's User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA) product, a cloud-native, multi-tenanted analytics solution, that detects known and unknown threats by applying behavioral analysis based on advanced ML/AI technology. The Splunk UEBA product will empower large and medium scale enterprises to combat security threats, protect brand reputation and intellectual property.

Meet the UEBA Team:

Want to work on products that make a difference for our customers? Want to design and develop large-scale applications powered by massive data sets and make key technical decisions across a full stack of technologies? If so, a role on the Splunk User and Entity Behavior Analytics(UEBA) team would be a great fit for you.

What you'll get to do

  • Design and implement new features while testing and analyzing the performance of existing systems.
  • Uphold high engineering standards by leading design, code, and test plan reviews.
  • Build reliable, scalable, and high-performance distributed systems.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for engineering and operational excellence.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, post-incident reviews, and other operational activities to ensure service reliability.
  • Debug and resolve customer-reported issues, delivering effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, product managers and other engineers.
  • Contribute to sprint and quarterly planning by helping estimate tasks and workloads.
  • Learn, explore, and integrate new technologies into the team’s workflow.

Must-have Qualifications

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or Scala, with a solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, RESTful APIs, and microservices.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed system architecture, including data persistence and processing technologies for both streaming and batch applications.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Proficiency in application monitoring, log management, metrics/telemetry processing, and alerting tools.
  • Experience with an Agile DevOps engineering environment that effectively uses CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, etc.)
  • 5 years of related experience with a technical Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent practical experience; or 3 years and a technical Master’s degree; or a Ph.D. without experience; or equivalent practical experience

Nice-to-have Qualifications

We’ve taken special care to separate the must-have qualifications from the nice-to-haves. “Nice-to-have” means just that: Nice. To. Have. So, don’t worry if you can’t check off every box. We’re not hiring a list of bullet points–we’re interested in the whole you.
  • Experience with large-scale event processing systems and data storage solutions, including both SQL and NoSQL, with experience in time series data storage and retrieval
  • Familiarity with ML frameworks, data pipelines, or analytics tools to enhance system intelligence and decision-making capabilities.
  • Experience with Splunk (SPL)
  • Experience with AWS services such as EMR, Aurora, SQS, and Kinesis
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in best practices for building scalable systems, fostering a culture of scalability and performance excellence
