Principal Electrical Engineer

Location: Västerås, Sweden

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to support complex engineering projects within high and medium voltage substations. The role involves leading and performing advanced electrical engineering activities, reviewing technical documentation, supporting project execution, and providing technical expertise across international projects.

The position requires strong experience in substation engineering, control and protection systems, and the ability to collaborate with multiple technical disciplines in a complex project environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review substation documentation, including:

  • Single line diagrams

  • Protection diagrams

  • Interlocking diagrams

  • AC and DC drawings

  • Calculations

  • Control and protection panel drawings

  • IED configurations

  • Cabling documentation and bills of materials

• Provide technical evaluation of supplier proposals and verify that supplied equipment and services meet requirements.

• Provide technical support during pre-FAT and FAT stages.

• Support installation and commissioning activities.

• Prepare project documentation within assigned technical scope.

• Collaborate with project managers, design teams, commissioning teams, planners, quality assurance, and supply chain functions.

• Lead and coordinate complex engineering activities and support resolution of technical challenges.

Requirements (Must Have)

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or a similar technical discipline) with a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience, including leadership and/or project responsibility; alternatively, another relevant technical degree with more than 15 years of relevant work experience.

• Experience working with high and medium voltage substation engineering.

• Knowledge of substation control and protection systems.

• Experience preparing and reviewing electrical engineering documentation.

• Fluent Swedish and English, both written and spoken.

• Ability to work 100% on-site in Västerås.

• Willingness to participate in international projects.

• Proactive, result-oriented, and able to work effectively in a team environment.

• Ability to handle complex technical challenges and work under pressure.

  • AutoCAD
