Lead Database Administrator - Cloud AWS / Mongo DB / Cassandra

Location: Greenwood Village, Colorado, United States

Employment Type: Full Time

As Lead Database Administrator at Spectrum, you will guide the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex database environments across both traditional (Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata) and cloud-native platforms (MongoDB, Cassandra, Amazon DocumentDB, AWS RDS/Aurora). Your leadership will drive data integrity, scalability, and operational excellence across hybrid and multi-cloud data infrastructure, making a measurable impact on the backbone of our technology infrastructure.


How You’ll Make an Impact 

  • Perform installations and configurations of grid infrastructure, databases, clients etc. Design and maintain access and security administration. Design, implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies on Database Management Systems 
  • Design, install, configure and maintains High Availability (RAC, RAC One Node, Data Guard etc.) Database solutions 
  • Plan and organize the team’s project and work responsibilities by defining project scope, establishing timelines, organizing project teams, and tracking/assigning deliverables, and working with internal/external departments to achieve project objectives 
  • Serve as escalation point in absence of leadership in the troubleshooting of alerts (alert log, jobs, disk group, tablespace, etc.) and performance issues. Provide recommendations to team around designs, installs, configures, maintains and troubleshoots High Availability (real application clustering-RAC, RAC One Node, Data Guard etc.) Database solutions 
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot and monitor GoldenGate replication 
  • Expertise in setup using OEM as a monitoring and diagnostics tool and identifies/resolves the performance issues 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve alerts (alert log, Jobs, Disk Group, Tablespace etc.) and performance issues 
  • Perform capacity planning of different server environments and provides recommendations to management to sustain business growth. Proactively works with development teams to improve database design and procedures on PL/SQL best practices 
  • Coach and mentor junior Database Administrators as well as provide guidance on work assignments. Guide database administration team members and advise leadership by communicating issues to a wide variety of internal and external departments to include technical teams, senior leadership, and vendors 
  • Gather business requirements and designs, implements multiple projects along with the production support. Create standard operational procedures and templates. Perform research and provides plans to remediate complex business problems 
  • Represent the database operations team working closely with clients and partners. Participate in on call rotation

Required Qualifications 


Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent work experience 

Experience 

  • 8+ years of experience working with Oracle/SQL/Teradata and various database management systems in testing, implementation, maintenance and administration in a multiple platform environment

Skills 

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Oracle 11g and 12c database architecture; knowledge of maintaining medium to large scale database systems (Oracle, SQL, and/or Teradata)
  • In-depth knowledge in Oracle RAC and ASM; knowledge of Instance, database and query tuning to improve the performance of the database/application
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Linux operating systems and shell scripting, Oracle OEM, Oracle GoldenGate, and MySQL database 
  • Advanced knowledge of business awareness, critical analysis, and integration of information as well as the ability to develop action-oriented plans
  • Advanced leadership skills and ability to manage instances with multiple operating system platforms 
  • Ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences 
  • Ability to assign tasks to small teams and follow-up on assigned tasks in a 24x7 database support environment 
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straightforward manner to all levels of management and company personnel 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks; effectively and solve problems while working under pressure
  • Ability to show judgment and initiative to accomplish job duties 
  • Ability to work with others to resolve problems and handle requests


Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • Design, deploy, and maintain cloud-based and NoSQL database platforms (MongoDB, Cassandra, Amazon DocumentDB, AWS RDS/Aurora), including provisioning, scaling, sharding/replication, and security configuration
  • Design and implement high-availability and disaster recovery strategies across hybrid environments, spanning on-prem clustering (RAC, RAC One Node, Data Guard) and cloud-native replication/failover (e.g., MongoDB replica sets, Cassandra multi-DC replication, RDS Multi-AZ)
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and monitor GoldenGate replication and cloud-native data replication/migration tools
  • Monitor and tune performance across heterogeneous database platforms using cloud-native tools (CloudWatch, MongoDB Atlas/Ops Manager, DataStax OpsCenter) as well as traditional tools (OEM), identifying and resolving performance issues
  • 8+ years of DBA experience, including relational platforms (Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata) and 3+ years hands-on experience with cloud/NoSQL platforms (MongoDB, Cassandra, Amazon DocumentDB, AWS RDS/Aurora)
  • Demonstrated experience designing high-availability and disaster recovery solutions in both on-prem and cloud environments
  • Experience with database security, access control, and compliance, including encryption at rest/in transit and IAM-based access
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring a DBA team
  • AWS Certified Database - Specialty or equivalent cloud certification
  • Scripting experience (Python/Bash) for automation
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)

The base pay for this position generally is between $88,200.00 and $156,600.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
