Additional details:    

  • Join Southwest as a Spring 2025 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from January 28th through April 17th, 2025. 

  • Work fully remotely, with opportunities to connect with your Team and other workgroups virtually and potential to travel to visit our Corporate Campus in Dallas, Texas. 

  • There is limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work off-site. Those ineligible locations are Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming. 

  • If you currently reside in an ineligible state, you may relocate to an eligible state and be considered for an internship 

  • Dedicate a minimum of 24 hours each week to your internship responsibilities and tasks, up to 40 hours a week. We recommend checking your spring schedule now to ensure availability.  

  • Receive an hourly pay of $31 and receive a one-time, $1,000 stipend (Paid $500 on first paycheck and $500 at midpoint of internship) 

  • Receive free, unlimited travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel).  

  • Interns will receive any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship.

The Intern will work part-time as a Technology Analyst Intern within the Technology Department. The Intern may be asked to support a variety of projects within one or more of the following Teams:

Technical & Ground Operations

  • Ground Ops Technology Planning:  This team is a high-visibility and cross-organizational team that is responsible for the planning, management, and Executive meetings to support the Ground Ops Technology organization. This involves heavy collaboration and alignment with other Teams, as well as analytics and presentation-building to mitigate risks and quickly drive to decisions. As a Technology Analyst intern on this team, you will work on managing the organization’s Kanban, leading meetings, and doing deep-dives into critical events or large-scale planning and trade-off decisions.

Technology Platforms & Architecture:

  • Technology Data Governance: This team is developing the Data Catalog on a vendor product, Securiti.ai. As a Technology Analyst intern on this team, you will have the opportunity to learn a new tool application, designing the configuration and building the user interface/integration with other existing modules.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the Technology Analyst Intern may include but are not limited to: 

  • Work with business Customers to conduct needs analysis relative to systems and business processes to create quality technical solutions. 
  • Ensure solutions are aligned with internal tooling, business strategies and comply with departmental standards. 
  • Manage timeframes for designing, coding, testing, and implementing to ensure solutions are delivered on time and within budget. 
  • Serve as a resource to ensure effective communications between business and Technology Teams. 
  • Participate in systems and acceptance testing. 
  • Scope of work varies depending on the Team assignment. 

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age 
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986 
  • You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process 
  • This position requires authorization to work in the United States as a permanent employee without sponsorship now or in the future 

Education

  • Progress towards degree, major, or minor in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or Information Technology, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Business OR similar degree 
  • Progress towards a 4-year undergraduate degree preferred
  • To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (as defined by your university) at the time of application and during the internship
  • At least one semester remaining at the time the internship ends is preferred  
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of business analysis, process modeling and redesign is preferred
  • Problem solving ability and strong written/verbal communications skills required
  • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple and concurrent assignments under tight deadlines
  • Exposure to Agile methodologies preferred
  • Basic partnering, negotiation, and communication skills in working with Business Customers and Technology support preferred
  • Fundamental understanding of project management techniques
  • Knowledge of or experience with Saas products, and AWS development or configuration preferred
  • Classroom and/or industry experience developing User Interface Experience Applications preferred
  • Classroom and/or industry experience with Data Analytics tools and reporting tools 
  • Strong interpersonal skills preferred
  • Experience solving business problems in a capstone or case competition preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred
  • Previous analyst internship experience within the past 12 months preferred
  • Works well in a culture that is open, direct, respectful, courteous and compassionate preferred

Time Commitment and Pay

  • Required: Part-time 24-40hrs a week 
  • Must maintain a consistent weekly schedule during normal business hours at a max of 8hrs per day and no fewer than 24hrs per week 
  • Program Dates: January 28 – April 17, 2025 
  • $31 per hour + $1,000 stipend paid in two installments of $500
