Role Summary
As a member of the Sophos Data team, the Software Engineer works closely with software engineers, architects, product management and others to design and build the Sophos Data team’s vision.  Software Engineer possess the ability to function as a technical lead, providing technical direction to other developers. Frequently will have direct responsibility for product features or key technology choices and implementation. Collaborates as part of a team for the development of complex systems; including requirements analysis, concept development and design, implementation, and testing, demonstrating flexibility of role as required.

What You Will Do

  • Participate in planning and design sessions with engineering management, architects, operations and development team leads
  • Own your modules and be responsible for their operational uptime in production.
  • Design software using modern design patterns and microservices architecture.
  • Ability to partner effectively with UX, PM, DevOps, QE and other developers to design and implement meeting the spirit of requirements 
  • Experience in Data modeling, data structures, and schema management 
  • Technically curious to keep present on advances in technology 
  • Experience with segregation of model, presentation, and business logic. 
  • Experience and strong desire to build in test from the start. 
  • Write code (Test or Product) to deliver against project timescales, quality and requirements in various languages including Java or other selected languages for Sophos Cloud products. 
  • Conduct Unit, System and Integration testing and fixing errors, with guidance if required. 
  • Work with best of breed Cloud technologies (high throughput event processing, cloud-scale data analytics, etc) 

What You Will Bring

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent 
  • 2-3+ years of Java applications development. 
  • Experience with JUnit
  • Experience working with AWS services
  • Experience designing and implementing microservices.
  • Experience creating scalable application frameworks and microservices.
  • Experience with creating CI/CD pipelines 
  • Experience using and creating RESTful APIs. 
  • Experience with container development. 
  • Experience with Agile Software Development methodologies 
  • Evaluation of technical and functional specifications and their cohesion 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Effective communication with different types of audience 
    • Desired:
  • Experience working with terraform
  • Experience with high-volume consumer-oriented solutions.
  • Experience troubleshooting large scale cloud applications
  • Experience with Kafka streaming architectures
In the United States, the base salary for this role ranges from $104,000 to $174,000. In addition to base salary, we offer additional compensation including bonus eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package.  A candidate’s specific pay within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including job-related skills, training, location, experience, relevant education, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
